-551, 951 and 428 Large Trailer (1948-71)

Hi Gents,
Inspired by Mike's photo on the cover of the current Journal I found this at Kidderminster Toyfair today when I wandered away from my table, I know Jan's got one too, but this is the first one I've seen......

Any chance of some photos of variations on this one, hubs / tyres etc, I think it's a bit of an overlooked gem myself.

Chris Warr.

The green one can be found either with green or black wheel hubs. Some of mine at:

Just found some better, more useful pictures:

Cheers Jan,
I really like the early issues of this one, must look out for a black hubs one now too.

Some more variations then:

The yellow companion of the previous ones.

The early 1950s version in trade box and with narrow rear wheel support base.

The 'regular' 1950s version with individual box and heavier rear wheel support.

No difference visible, except for the black treaded tyres, but it has no maker's name below the front wheels bogie.

An example with the later larger plastic tyres and corresponding adjustments to the casting for the new height of the overall wheels.

Examples with blue and cream hubs.

An example with plastic hubs.

And finally this more familiar latest red version with the late hubs.

Kind regards, Jan

Fantastic! Thanks Jan, plenty more to look out for, does the shade of yellow match the Bedford artic that shares the casting?

Yes, despite numerous efforts to find a correct match, this is the most logical and best possible match of the Large Trailer with any other Dinky!
