Military Matters

Here is a representation of the military signs as used on the 1950s and 1960s Dinky military vehicles.

A very useful list! However, in my opinion only a small selection of these signs listed have been used on military Dinky Toys and Dinky Supertoys of that period. On the other hand one might consider to include the desert rat sign of the no. 677 Armoured Command Vehicle and the RAF sign of the no. 642 R.A.F. Pressure Refueller.

Kind regards, Jan Werner

Jan

A Post already over seven years old, but thought I would add my two bobs worth, although I am uncertain whether someone else has brought this to your attention since 2009 whose Posts have become lost during the transfer process.

Two points.

1) The "RAF insignia" on the front of the 642 is in fact the French Air Force roundel and 2), the 642 should be correctly referred to as PRESSURE REFUELLER, without the added "RAF". Incidentally I do have two models, one from my original collection that has the RAF roundel in place of the French Air Force roundel. Someone finally got it right, albeit for possibly a short period!

Further comments on this model can be found in the 642 Pressure Refueller Thread.

Kind regards

As an aid to the Mighty Antar insignia discussion I have dug up this four years old posting by Dave. Very practical! Regards, Jan

Jan--Thanks for re-posting that; I had no idea how many or varied the various insignia were, so quite interesting.

Hi all,
The Antar div sign posting has got me picking up every one I see at the Fairs now, but I think that first issue, the one I have, must have been HUGE, as they all seem to be first issues out there!

Good Afternoon fellow collectors.

Can someone please help me with the correct identification of the model below.

I bought on ebay some time ago as a Dinky issued in the US only, but I am not sure of the authenticity.

Thank you in advance

Hi Dirk,

The casting and the wheels look authentic, the paint I am not sure because the grille is not painted, the white strars etc... have been added and make this model a code 3.  Anyway, only twelve Dinky Toys have been issued without the marque Meccano. This because there was nowhere to place it.

It would be nice to have a good picture of the inside.

All the best.
