Here is a page from a 1960 Dinky US leaflet.
The 186 Mercedes-Benz 220SE is shown in black, in all other publications I have only ever seen it depicted in blue. Has anyone ever seen a black example of the 186 Mercedes-Benz 220SE.
Dave
A little late, but no, I have not seen a black 186. As the model is marked as "Coming Soon", it is possible the final decision on its colour schemes had not been made by the time the price list went to press.
Here is another example, this time the 186 is in one of its colour schemes, but above it is a 155 Ford Anglia in yellow, with no mention that it is "Coming Soon". The price list/leaflet was issued after 21 July 1961 from an earlier printing in May 1961. No doubt in May, the final colour scheme of turquoise had not been made.
Has anyone seen a yellow 155 Ford Anglia in their travels!!
Bruce
There are many examples of catalogues showing the wrong colour. The drawings of the catalogues were often made from the wooden mock-up which had been painted at least a year before the final decision of colour was made or from colour samples. The catalogs may also have gone to the printer to be ready for the launching of the model.
The Encyclopaedia contains several of these miss coloured drawings.
Could Dave and Bruce email me large scans of their documents to add to the CD ?
Thanks.
Jacques.
Jacques
I quite agree that there are numerous examples of incorrect colours being used with catalogues, but here is an example, not only the wrong colour, but the wrong model! The 140 Morris 1100 was only issued as a four door, not as shown, a two-door, and also only in light blue.
Below it is a 130 Ford Consul Corsair - wrong colour not to mention too many doors!
This is from the first printing of the 1964 catalogue and it continued with the second printing and the Australian edition, so no doubt all the other editions for that year. The catalogue also has a number of other inaccuracies. A case of someone not happy with the prospect of a change in ownership of a unique institution?
Bruce
PLEASE DO NOT POST ABOUT CATALOGUES HERE, IT IS OFF TOPIC, THERE IS A NEW "CATALOGUES" THREAD.
Jacques
See my post in "Catalogues." My post is very much on the same subject raised by Dave. Perhaps the title should be changed to reflect model colour differences in leaflets and catalogues.
I can advise you many threads where posts have gone "OFF TOPIC" but these have not attracted any changes.
Bruce
Continuing with the topic of colour variants in catalogues that do not show the correct colour scheme(s) for certain Dinky Toys, the following is the first page or more correctly the cover of a four page catalogue (better described as a leaflet??) most likely printed in the United States on behalf of Lines Bros, New York.
This shows four of the five issued models in colour schemes that were never used, with the only one in its correct scheme, the 006 Rambler Classic Wagon. The sixth model, the 004 Dodge Polara Convertible was never issued. In its place a white with blue roof Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 was issued.
A copy of all four pages will be submitted in the "Catalogue" thread.
