Hi David,

Very nice addition to your collection, I thought that you wolud bid for it. The price was probably not very high.

I have not found any more about Grafil than you did. I have written to Luis Rossi about it but as he is visiting collectors in the Netherlands, he has not yet answered my email.

Thank you Jacques.

Here under, one of my favorite : Ford Vedette 24 Q.
That version arrived this morning
The colour is a very very metallized light blue, almost light green !
I'll open a new thread to show the difference of shade with the one I already had in my display.

Cheers

And here is one of Stfan's surplus models, now exported to the Netherlands:

Some very slight cleaning to be done, but it's really an excellent example, first type of 1954.

Both of us are very happy with this deal!

Kind regards, Jan

Yes Jacques, it's a good idea because it's always interesting to see how the collections are moving and growing.
The thing is that, as soon as you have post the photo of your new model on this thread, you have to be disciplined and create, if it's not already made, a new thread that every member can visit and have discussions.
Anyway, that's only my opinion.
Cheers
Richard

I collected this last Friday.

It is a sign used in shops in the 1950s. I am writing an article on it for the Journal.

I have spent up on Dinky bits till the new year now!!!!

Very nice item david, congrats.

I have seen one before at a nice guy in the Netherlands and an other one is on the home page of the Encyclopaedia.

My picture is not very good because it is made up of two different signs. Could you please provide two better pictures of exactly the same size ?

Jacques.

David,

Very nice picture of the iluminated Dinky toys sign. It shows very good with the lights on as I have one also.
My sign has the screwed in bulbs and fittings as usual in Europe. As they looks very old I am sure these are originals. For England the bulbs are standard plug in. So did Meccano made two different signes, one for England and one for abroad?

John.

Hello John

Meccano obviously took account of the Edison Screw bulbs that were in use in Europe, are the mountings for the bulbs in yours made from Brass?

Dave

Hello David,

My sign has indeed brass mountings with a ring of China, so old style. The original Bulbs are Phillips 230-240 volt ( is now 220 V in Netherlands) 15 Watt.
The sign is complete original and probably never used. I bought it here from a Meccano dealer.

John.

I was out of town for few days and when I came back yesterday two small packets were waiting for me :

I did not find a thread on the Chrysler 39e, so I will open one.

Richard--
Two very nice, collectible Dinky's. I have always liked the French Ford, and have acquired several over the years. Is that an early one with the metal tires? And the Chrysler also looks very nice with the white tires....a classic 39 series to be proud of.
Best regards,
Terry

Thank you Terry.
Yes, it is an early Ford with the metal weels and tires.
Kind regards.

The Ford covered wagon without advertissement is very rare. This one even has it's unbroken towing hook. The tilt which is painted inside means that it is an early example.

Well done Richard.

Richard...nice buy on the Daimler Ambulance, and I agree with Dave....much better than lowering your standards on an Atlas version!
I also just got a new arrival this week, and was delighted to open up the box and see it for the first time. This is an early version of the #582 Pullmore Car Transporter, not the 6 rivet, but still the single, light blue color, along with the darkened loading ramps. For Christmas in 1955, I had received my first one from my dear grandmother, and I always loved the Transporter....a wonderful toy for a young boy. When the chance arrived to buy an almost like new one, and in the earlier version, I jumped at it.
The date code on the inside of the box shows this was made in September, 1953. From prior reading, I think the Transporter first appeared in early 1953, as the limited run 6 rivet version. From pictures I have seen, the 6 rivet also appeared to have decal lettering on the side of the trailer, as you can clearly see the yellowed background around the words. At first I wasn't sure how much I would like the single, somewhat pale color of this one, but it has grown on me, plus the look of the darkened ramps, which are probably a little more realistic as well.
The box it came with is almost like new, and has the two inserts included, and the model itself has only a few minor marks, so I am very happy with it. On one side of the box, above the wording "A Meccano Product", is a number....."50582". I seem to remember reading something about that, but cannot now remember it if meant anything.....please let me know if it does!
Below are several photos, along with some showing it loaded with my Triumph 1800 saloons...making a trip from the manufacturer to a local car dealer.....enjoy!

From the 1953 catalog, showing the early color scheme

From the 1954 catalog, showing the later two tone color scheme

Splendid capture Terry with a complete box ! It would be interesting if you could put a photo in the Pullmore thread. That will add a good information on this beautiful truck.
Kind regards.

Lovely item Terry they look so nice with a set of the same cars onboard.

Here is mine with a set of Standard Vanguards.

A very nice example + box indeed, Terry! Here is mine, and it's striking to see that all colour shades of the loading area's seem to be different. Terry's very dark, Dave's more greyish and mine a kind of medium buff.

As you see my box is numbered 982 already, although the number cast underneath is 582. The box is in a rather poor condition.

My subsequent two-tone version has the same 982 box (with the model in all pale blue on it, with differently coloured loading strips), and it still has the number 582 cast in down under.

Kind regards, Jan

Hi Bruce, well, Meccano France did so too in some instances, but in the case below it wasn't necessary at all, because they never produced the Fork Lift Truck in a colour different from the illustration!

By the way, a new arrival today, the Triumph TR2 in civilian finish. I had no Triumph at all until today, neither sports nor civilian.

I like this modestly coloured one best of all Triumph versions available. I find the pink one the most horrible. So, I'm very happy with this addition!

Hi Bruce.
I don't think they change the colour of the truck on the box because both were yellow.
Look at the Chrysler Newyorker with its yellow box and a red Chrysler on one side and a yellow one on the other side.
Friendly yours.

I think that as often, the colour of the drawing on the boxes and catalogues are the colours of the mock-up.

There is one known exception, the 976 Michigan tractor dozer for which we know why the drawings on the box is different from the production models.

Grahame Millers who was Promotions Manager at Michigan GB in Camberley Surrey explained on TMT : "I was responsible for the model being made by Meccano. The company had to pay

Hello Richard

It was just a thought, although Meccano could have done the same with the box as it did for the Fork Lift as shown in the picture above submitted by Jan with the white effect surrounding the drawing. The examples you have indicated are similar to the English models in yellow. But your point is taken. We are all grasping for a reason the model was never painted in the colour scheme depicted on the box.

Kind regards

Bruce

The Singer Vogue may very well be an exception, as two original 145 Singer Vogue models have been sold through an auction house here in Australia, one in Sydney, mint and boxed, with its authenticity verified by a long-standing Dinky collector, and the other in Melbourne, slightly chipped to chipped, but again authenticated. A pity both my bids were below their final price! So it is possible a limited number were produced before the colour was switched to metallic green.

Interestingly, the Melbourne example was described as pale yellow, and someone, later told me the colour was almost white, and it did not have any appearance of it being sun-faded as the same colour was underneath.

It is unfortunate that I have no colour images of both models, so I presume we will have to continue along the line that none were ever produced in yellow, or pale yellow, unless these examples come back onto the market again in the future.

The auctions took place in the late 1990s.

Kind regards

Bruce

PS
Have we not wandered off the subject of this thread "New Arrivals"??!!!

Bruce,

The two models sold in Australia may have been factory colour samples made on pilot lot (pre-prod) models. Richard is the expert for colour samples and haw they were made.

There are several examples of colour samples known of the same colour as the boxes and catalogues drawings. I would have to look for them.

Hi all,

Haven't been able to post anything for a while due to spending 4 months Dinky money on a turbo for the van, but I couldn't resist this lovely pair, should be a flat lorry, but even the hubs match so it's good enough for me !

Do we have a 25 series thread ? Think we need one :)
