Jan--
Thanks for showing that horizontal line added on the rear of the Vanguard. My cream colored one has such thick paint that it is hardly visible....I like the blue one much better!

Dave--
Nice pictures of the Fordson truck and the leaflet. Do you also collect car and truck literature and leaflets? I have seen a lot of your postings and many of those appear to be not just images. When I was a young teenager I spent about a year collecting catalogs of cars from all over the world and amassed quite a large box full of them, including some very nice Rolls Royce, Bentley, Ferrari and Aston Martin. Sometime after I moved out of the house I ended up throwing all of it away, which I quickly regretted!

Hi Terry

All the manufacturers leaflets you see are scans from original literature which I own.

I have collected them over the last 10 to 15 years.

I tend to concentrate on cars, or trucks, which were modelled by Dinky or Corgi, plus a couple that have significant personal interest.

I think they are a wonderful snapshot back to another age and absolutely fascinating - some of them true works of art. The illustrators were very highly skilled people.

Dave-
That is what I thought...that you collected those old leaflets and catalogs, and I agree, they are wonderful to look at. I love the look of the old illustrations and they go perfectly with Dinky Toys from the same era. Thanks for pairing up so many for us to see and appreciate!

Here is a leaflet for the 27g/342 Opperman Motocart:

Dave--
Nice picture of that leaflet and it again appears that Dinky made a very accurate model of the Motocart. About when was that made and available? I am guessing after the war, thru early 1950's?
Very interesting little vehicle that I do not ever remember seeing here in the U.S....thanks for showing!

The Motocart was made by a firm called SE Opperman in Boreham Wood from 1948 to at least the end of the 1950s.

They were never an everyday vehicle, I never saw one as child other than the lovely Dinky Toy.

I found a real one this year at a steam fair in the UK, here it is:

The Dinky Toy is a very good representation.

The Comet has a very distinctive front end design, which Dinky captured very well. Nice leaflet once again....thanks Dave!

Dave--
The Studebaker tanker has always been one of my Dinky favorites....just a very nicely done model, with a very distinctive front to it. That is also a very nice leaflet photo that shows the detail nicely. I also have these, and am posting a couple of pictures of the later Mobilgas version and the less common robins eggs blue decal version of the Esso tanker.

Your two tankers are very nice Terry, my collection has become too big and I have stopped looking for the variations nowadays unless I come across something really special.

The vast majority of DinkToys are made of Mazac, sometomes known as Zamac.

It is not commonly known that one or two models were made experimentally from Aluminium.

The ESSO tanker is made from Mazac and weghs 106g. the identically sized Castrol tanker is made from Aluminium and is almost half the weght at 58.3g. Most of the production of Castrol tankers is in Mazac and the Aluminium ones are very very rare.

I wrote a substantial article about this in the January 2011 Dinky Toy Journal.

That little Trojan van made for a very nice run of Dinky Models. I also have the set and I love the various liveries that Dinky used. What era was that van made and used? Am guessing late 1940's thru 1950's....

You are absolutely right with your timing here Terry.

They made cars and vans pre-war and predominantly vans post-war fron the late 1940s to the end of the 1950s.

Then they made some bubble cars unders license and then some sports cars before going out of business in the late 1960s.

Here is the #179 Dinky Studebaker President, introduced in the 1958 catalogue, along with it's twin, the #180 Dinky Packard Clipper. What is interesting is that these two cars are almost identical except for some trim differences. The Studebaker Corp. had bought out what was left of Packard around 1956, and until it's demise in 1958, they were re-badged Studebakers. Packard had been a very well respected car maker up until WWII. The Depression pretty much wiped out the company and they were never the same, even thought they did bring out and market cars after the war.
It is also interesting to me that Meccano chose to make so many various Studebaker and Packard models. Neither one was ever a major car manufacturer in the league with say General Motors, Ford, or Chrysler, but over the years there were many Studebaker trucks and cars, and several Packards. By the way, both of these are 1957 models and I apologize that neither of these are in mint condition...the paint seemed very prone to chipping on many of these late 1950's Dinky's and it seems like it was applied very heavy...maybe too thick?? I also think that this model of the Packard suffered quite a bit from a lack of detail by Dinky...the real car looks quite a bit nicer and trimmed out, with lots of accents.

Dave--
They are showing on my computer under my post....not sure why you aren't seeing them...is there any reason you can think of why I would be seeing them? When I did first post them, I did go back and do several edits to the text only, but I could still see all of the pictures. Maybe I need to re-post everything. Here are the pictures once again..........let me know if these come through....
Did the text show on the first post?

Hi Terry

When I first looked at it the text was there and there where little boxes where each image should be which contained the following message:
"Sorry. This person moved or deleted this image. Photobucket."
On your first listing all except three of the images ar now there, see the attached screengrab:

On your second listing all the images are there.

Dave K. may know the answer to this.

Hi Gents,
Re your Photobucket woes : I have had exactly the same issues recently, I had to change back to the original version before it would work properly again. Many on other sites have had this issue too, it's PB's issue not yours.
