--47d and 777 Belisha Beacon (1935-63)

Could anyone help me with dating these white-based Belisha Beacons? They were mentioned to be pre-war, with their white bases, but this goes only for the undersides of the bases, in my opinion. I believe that, on the contrary, these  satin white painted bases are the later ones, like the traffic light included, which I conclude from the white-based road signs in the 1959 introduced no. 772 British Road Signs set. These white bases on Belisha Beacons are scarce in my opinion, scarcer than the common black ones. Please, note the difference in number of black and white pole bands too! Kind regards, Jan

Dear Jan,

The answer to your question is in the Encyclopaedia. If the content and the box were originaly together then the white base beacons are not the latest ones.

Unfortunately, so far there is no way to date the various types of tradeboxes but this one is an early postwar one.

I hope that this will help.

Jacques.

Thank you, Jacques. This old early post-war box contradicts my assumption obviously. I presume the homogeneous contents belongs to the box you show. However, I found the box below too, which is clearly a later, post-1954 trade box. Because they appear to occur at least in a time span of one decade, and they are still rather scarce, the suggestion of the late Peter Golden, being destined for export to the US, makes sense http://www.talkmodeltoys.com/discus/messages/27668/11493.html?1122754964

Kind regards, Jan
