Hi there. With regards to your Dinky 623 you have the wrong real world vehicle.

You are showing a photograph of an Albion but the Dinky 623 Army Covered wagon is based on the Bedford QL, see below :

The QL was developed during WWII and was replaced by the Bedford RL which is the Dinky 621

This is a fine example of how Meccano was playing with the scales: the DT model never existed at scale 1, because the Panhard tractor was much smaller than its Somua counterpart and unable to pull such a big tank trailer! But for us, kids, who would care? The visual result is so nice!!

Sorry again, but it is not the proper model year for the El Camino. The DT is based on a younger model.

The Dinky is a 1960 I think, the photo shows a 1959.
Here's a '60........

Good photo Dave, I'd never really looked, but didn't Dinky capture the look of the real Bedford superbly. Even the stance of the 4x4 chassis is spot on. The only thing they didn't do was the separate not flush headlamps, but that would have been too much to ask of the diemakers I presume.

Thanks to everybody. This is easier.

And this seems to be a Guy Vixen.

Approximately 7 months ago I initiated a thread called "Where it Came From" The intention was linking the Dinky Toy back to the real world vehicle.

In there details of the Trojan will be found in thread #925.

It strikes me that all these "Matching Pictures" threads could be contained within the original theme, is it OK if I ask Dave Kaun to do this? It would simplify matters considerably.

The Trojan was a difficult one to model. Must have been as both Meccano and Lesney Matchbox did it, and neither of them actually look much like the real thing!
Personally I was very disappointed when I saw my first real Trojan, as it didn't look half as good as my Dinky one, much narrower and taller, with little or no chrome.
Chris Warr.

catellag (not verified)

Yes, I think it's a good idea.

catellag (not verified)

That is very kind of you, Chris. But can you tell me something about the real Trojan van?

The front cover of the Trojan leaflet is shown in my thread on the "Where it Came From" theme.

Here is Page 6 from that leaflet giving the general spcification. The leaflet is dated October 1950.

Hope this helps

Why oh why didn't Dinky make that Wrenson's van?
I wonder what colour/s it was?
Chris Warr.

Any news about his prototype ?

Here comes a Dinky 596.
