A few days ago I bought a Dinky Toy Renault R8 Junior series for a pretty hefty price but now I suspect is it a counterfeit made of a baseplate of an original Junior and a body of an Atlas version R8 Junior. Clearly visible are the far less prominent details and lack of relief in several spots like the front where the diamond Renault badge is just a lick of paint with ample relief instead of a clear casted diamond with much relief. The rear indicators are painted silver whereas the original had it painted in the body colour. The ridge along the bonnet is also not clearly present like in the original and the door handles are far less accentuated. Is this a counterfeit? What do you think?
The problem has been solved. The Auction House expert concluded that it is a falsification and I will receive full refunds. The model has been manipulated with to look like a Renault 8 Junior by fitting an Atlas body to a genuine but bend and damaged baseplate. This is the risk with online photo's and descriptions. This was the first time I encountered such a fraud and hopely the last time.
I'm glad that the auction house agreed with you. The sense of betrayal by the consignor must have been intense.
Thank you. Most Dinky Juniors don't look that fresh any more so I should have been warned. Too eager to buy, there you go. Next time I will be more patient. I am just starting a collection and sometimes you are wanting it too fast. Then such events happen, as a warning!
