-651 Centurion Tank (1954-70)

I knew about the yellow Visi-Pac for the Centurion but there was also the gold one.

I spent about 90 hours of work to produce a list of topics for this forum. These are in the PDF library but they are NOT BEING USED, this means that instead of items being in their proper sequence they are now appearing all over the place.

WE ARE GOING BACK TO THE MESS WE HAD BEFORE. This topic on the 651 is a prime example.

I have obviously wasted my time doing all this work

Dave--I have used the proper pdf titles ever since I was notified some time ago; it is possible that some have forgotten aa that was not on our old site.
I think it is very desirable as it lists each topic properly and should avoid similar but slightly different topics.
Perhaps Dave K should post another reminder about this or send an e-mail to each member. This is important or we will have a mess......you did not waste your time!
Best regards, Terry

At least the title Jacques has used is the same as used by Meccano, the title from the pdf file -651 Centurion Main Battle Tank being never used by Meccano.  Can someone please exhibit a box, base plate, printed ephemera from Meccano or anything else from Meccano that includes the words MAIN BATTLE. Interesting that whoever suggested Main Battle with the title did not also include the appropriate Mark of the tank. The years in brackets of course is for the benefit of modern day enthusiasts only.

All that is required without resorting to a holier than thou attitude is to request Jacques to amend the title to read -651 Centurion Tank (1954-1970) (making certain how the dash is applied) and that should bring his post being sorted numerically into the British Military section, at least in theory. Then for someone to change the title on the pdf file and the current title in the Forum to reflect the model's exact title.

There is actually little point using the pdf file if the title is wrong.  I can list countless titles that obviously reflect a collective whim at the time rather than following explicitly the terminology used by Meccano. If need be, the title could have the model's correct designation in brackets in a similar manner to that used by Jacques for another model, although I would prefer to simply leave the title exactly as Meccano had "decreed" it to be.

However, I am also guilty of by-passing the pdf file too as it is so much simpler to click on the NEW TOPIC link and type in the title used by Meccano especially if the pdf title is incorrect unless one can correct the pdf title on commencing the new topic. So I stand guilty as charged. But it would be nice if the system could continue updating itself with all the various topics, and for duplicate, triplicate, quadruplicate etc topics be combined, as well as the main list of Forum Topics for both the British and French models to be in alphabetical order.

Dave, I will be writing something on the work you did behind the scenes in preparing for this new site elsewhere suffice to say at present, I and countless others appreciate all the work you (and others) did over an extended period of time.

Finally, all the above discussions, including this one, should really have taken place under the appropriate topic.

Dave and Bruce,

I fully agree with you, this site is a mess and it was from the beginning because the proper structure has not been used.

I do not know which .pdf file you are writing about.

The only way to sort out some of this mess is to type the whole list (is this Dave's .pdf file ?) of Dinky as was done on TMT and then freeze the list. No NEW TOPIC link. A new topic can be inserted by the webmaster only. Well a NEW TOPIC link can lead to the web master's email. That list must NOT BE SORTABLE, there is absolutely no use for that. The dash in front of the ref. number becomes useless

The list must also be cleared of all un-necessary data and kept as simple as possible. A single line for each model and only one page.

There are so many topics without a reference number which are duplicates to some with reference

I did type the list of French Dinky on TMT and I am ready to do it again here if it is agreed to freeze the list. Otherwise, it is not worth spending the time.

Since this site has been opened, I wish that this will happen.

Some time ago, there has been a request for a thread about improving this site. Has this thread been opened.

Jacques.
