--33b and 578 Simca Cargo benne basculante [Simca Cargo Tipper Truck] (1955-1969)

The Benne basculante Simca "Cargo", an 'as new' example:

The other day I noticed that this Benne basculante Simca "Cargo" has two neat tiny red dots below the front of the front mud guards. It could be some marking, code of an earlier owner of this model:

But, browsing in 'Utilitaires Dinky Toys & Dinky Supertoys' by Redempt and Touillez, I happened to come across some similar but a little different feature underneath an example as shown on page 147 over there:

I'm not very familiar with French Dinkies, so it may mean nothing at all, but possibly someone has seen this or something similar before, or someone might even have an explanation for this curious red marking!

Kind regards, Jan Werner

Dear Jan.
I will have a look on mine, but I know that I already saw these red points on some of my items.
I thing that it is something to do with the position of the body on the grill when painting.
For the moment, I have 10 variants of this Simca and I will try to post a photo later.
There were 4 moulds for the body, 2 for the tip, 2 for the back door and all these pieces where mixed. Then, you add 2 different colours for the body, light green and dark green, and 3 different grey for the tip ! :S :S :S
Then you add 2 different hubs : concave and convex
Then you add 2 different fixing for the safety tyre : screw or rivet ! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
That'all folks

All of them have a difference !

Tip colour and inside look : smooth or striped
The reinforcement in the middle of the back door : either in relief or in hollow

Here, only the right one has a hollow reinforcement !

Thanks again Richard. Even the badges above the grilles seem to have slightly different shapes. Is that correct? If so, the number of variations is really 'endless' indeed!

Now the two variants of the body.

A type : The ribs of the left petrol-tank are in line with the "Y" of Dinky and the "O" of Toys ; in the same time, the footboards located at the base of the cabin's doors are in hollow, the Simca badge located in the front of the cabin, under the windows, is big (bigger than the one on the type B).
Also, the injection marks of the base are located under the rear wheels axel.

B type : The ribs are in line with the interval between Dinky and Toys, and with the "Y" of Toys ; the footboards are in relief, the Simca badge is smaller than the one of the A type, and the injection marks are clearly on the left of the axel (when the cabin is on the left !)

On the photo, there are 2 A types and one B type, located in the middle.
You can see that the reference "33" is not at the same level than the others.
You can see also, that two safety tyres are screwed and one fixed with a rivet.
At last, if I did not forget anything else, you can also see, behind the safety tyre the place where is fixed the hook that we only find on the BAILLY version.

If you want more photos, please ask.

I did not find any red points on my Simca Cargo, but as I wrote, I have seen them but..... on which Dinky ??? As soon as I find, I'll contact you.

Friendly yours.

Richard

Richard and Jan--
I read Jan's initial post as well as your very interesting followup. I only have one version of this Dinky, so decided to take a look at it and compare with your findings. First, it does not have the red dots as Jan's does, and secondly, it appears to be the second type according to your description. It does not have the area prepared for the tow hook, but does have the indented reinforcement on the rear gate.  I have also updated this post with some new, additoinal photographs.......

Very nice item Terry dating of 1956.
The Simca Cargo benne basculante is born in 1955 and was manufactured during one year with the smooth inside tip.
Since 1956, the inside tip is striped. :)

Richard--
Thanks! That is a very collection you have of that model, showing the many variations. It is interesting to realize how many changes Dinky did make over the many years some of the models were made.
