10th Anniversary Bus

Hi all,
I just received the 10th Anniversary Bus, based on Dinky 29a Motor bus. It's a cute little model that fits very well together with the puter model of the never released A.E.C. single deck bus. This bus I bought at the London Toy and Model Museum in 1983 at the Dinky 50th anniversary exhibition.

I have received my one too, and it's really nice. I've always been intrigued by this model of AEC Q, which would have been the pinnacle of British bus modernity at the time. It's quite a surprise just how small this is compared to the later 1/76 scale buses.

The single deck coach makes a great companion to it.

I prefer the single deck coach! Being especially interested in those intriguing models that Dinky never made I would love to see THAT one reproduced. Unfortunately I missed it in 1983. And of course it could be done better for a second time, not in massive pewter but in white metal, with the true specifications of the original design, see Dinky Toys & Modelled Miniatures fig. 428 page 255.

In an earlier post Jacques Dujardin could supply us with the following data regarding the real-world prototype:
The model is clearly based on the AEC Q coach with Duple bodywork supplied in 1933 to Elliott Brothers of Bournemouth, who traded as Royal Blue and ran express services between London, south-west England and the Midlands. The AEC Q was a revolutionary side-engined bus and coach chassis, and the Royal Blue example was only the second built. The 'bulge' in the roof was for luggage.

Kind regards, Jan

Jan--
I fully agree with you...that AEC would make a very nice model. It has very nice lines and is just a classic. It is a shame that Dinky didn't make it.
Is there a chance we could lobby the DTCA to make a version of it sometime? That would be a wonderful addition to our collections, and like you said, many of the "not made" models seem to generate a lot of interest.

Here are the two DTCA anniversary buses

The 2012 one on the left and the 2009 one on the right.

Chris, with regards to the request above, a form was sent out with the October DTCA Journal with details of how to get them, if you have not received a form contact Barry Townend he is arranging the sale of them.
