I see Jacques Dujardin is collecting some code 3 images in his compilation. Attached is my Hudson Hornet Limousine, Derham bodied for A.E.Barit President of Hudson. Featured restoration of the month in Diecast Collector in 2003.
Very nice. Such a difference in appearance with those rear side windows closed! I wonder if the reworking of your photo below may come closer to the true shade of yellow you used.
Kind regards, Jan
Yes it is cream, looks fine on iPad but website doesn't seem to like downloading high resolution pictures. I'll try again with the digi camera.
The DINKY TOYS Hudson Commodore sedan is based on the 1948 - 1949 Hudson.
Undoubtedly the most beautiful of all postwar Hudsons were the three customized sedans built by Derham between 1948 and 1952. The first was built for the widow of Hudson
Probably no cream limousine, but cream on the model was a nod to the original cream and maroon Dinky Hudson.
More of the the step down Hudson.
Noticeably the limousine has the earlier small text base with raised perimeter.
Here is my Hudson family
I like the blue over grey low line.
Hudson Hornet at Wheels Day on Good Friday (great new venue at Dunsfold). This is a later early fifties version than the Dinky, sporting horizontal rear lights and new grille.
Chris,
This is what I have in my archives, a very simple code 3, T do not know where the crane comes from. This conversion has been made by meilyman.
I think the crane may be from a Matchbox King Size..... scratches head.....
That IS nice! Great job. It's hard to make anything different from these little trucks
The Dinky Centurion Tank is a subject that lends itself to code 3 conversions. Over the years I have made four such conversions which I will show here.
1. Centurion Tank Mk5. This conversion consisted of replacing the wheel castings on the side skirts with proper wheels to create a more authentic look. I also added aerials and a fume extractor to the barrel.
2 .Centurion Tank with fuel trailer This was a slightly more difficult conversion - the first step was to remove the skirts on both sides and then using wheels from a couple of wrecked Centurions add them to the existing road wheels. The small supporting track wheels were then added, as were the fume extractor on the barrel and the cables on the rear. Using photos I then built the fuel trailer from scratch - a fairly delicate job but I think it turned out OK.
3. Centurion 155 Self-propelled Howitzer The work consisted of removing the turret and then building from scratch the superstructure. Again the cast wheels on the side skirts were removed and real wheels added .
4.Centurion Bridgelayer. This was by far the most challenging conversion as I only had photos from various sources to go on but no actual measurements. The bridge supporting and elevating structure was particularly difficult as it was difficult to find photos that showed the whole mechanism. The bridge itself was also a complicated structure that took some time to make.
I enjoyed making these code 3 conversions and hope they will be of interest to other Members.
