--25u Ford camion citerne 'Esso' [Ford Tanker 'Esso'] (1950-1953)

Hi friends.
Let me show you why I have bought this little Ford, without many paint.
Especially as I already have one in a better look !

Please compare the baseplates :
my old one on the left and the one I recieved today on the right.
There is an hyphen between Dinky and Toys and the typography is different.

Cheers

Richard

Hi Richard, a lovely model this is, the predecessor of the articulated tanker. I'm still looking out for an example which is both affordable and in very good shape.
Years ago I made a photo of the example below, owned by a friend of mine. It is a scan of an older print, so the colour may a bit confusing, but the white tyres are real - and original. They add a nice and special charm to this example:

Kind regards, Jan

I assume that both tankers on the picture above are of the type 2 casting without rivet for the towing hook (which has never been fitted). This makes four variations :
1) Casting with tow hook bos and rivet for the towing hook, base plate with hyphen. between DINKY and TOYS.
2) Casting with tow hook bos and without rivet for the towing hook, base plate with hyphen between DINKY and TOYS.
3) As 2 but base plate without hyphen between DINKY and TOYS.
4) Casting without tow hook bos, base plate without hyphen between DINKY and TOYS.

There is an other variation as my type four tanker has an ejector mark on the cab's ceiling. Was this ejector added on earlier types ?

In his last book, Roulet states that the latest models without the tow hook bos had a base plate without the notch for the bos but he does not confirm this by a photo and as Roulet is not reliable, I need a picture of this base plate before adding this variation to the Encyclop

Hi Jacques.
The ejector mark belongs to the model without hyphen.
I hope that's help.

We can see also, that the connection of the windows central stile with the cab's ceiling is different.

Friendly yours

Jacques--
I only have one of the Ford Tanker ESSO 25U, and it appears to be the second type. I have never noticed that hyphen before, and you do have to look very closely to see it. I am including photos of both the model and the base below. It also does not have the ejector mark in the cab, but a smooth ceiling.
Regards,
Terry

Terry,

Thank you for posting your tanker, it does help to fill the table.

I hope that other members will have different ones.

Jacques.

In fact there were two different base plates, one with and one without a hyphen.
