Re : New arrivals

Er yes, it's another new Dinky Toy. I am able to fit this in because it's an upgrade to a previous sample that has no box and isn't in as nice condition!

Re : New arrivals

Jonathan—-Nice Model, and a great rationalization.....I love it! I have that same two-tone, plus an original all yellow one. Dinky did a nice job on that.
Best regards, Terry

Re : New arrivals

Hi all,

Finally I was able to complete my set of trade boxes for the pre war 28 series Vans. The 28-1 was the most difficult to find, but it arrived yesterday in a pile of other trade boxes. I am very pleased with it. It will be a challenge to fill all three. The 28-3 is full, the 28-2 contains two models and it will be difficult to find these models without too much fatigue. The 28-1 contains two models and budget and availability limits the possibilities to fill it further. I will try though.

Kind regards,

Rob

Re : New arrivals

Hello Rob,

Congratulations with this rare box. Have seen the pile of boxes on Ebay. Glad this rare item came to your collection so we can see it. Hope you can fill all in future.

John.

Re : New arrivals

Arrived today, the French no. 25m (Studebaker) Benne basculante, in very dark green and metallic grey, made 1949-1954. This one the later type 2 cab version, with more square, better finished, front windows, from end 1951 on. Kind regards, Jan

Re : New arrivals

Hi everyone.

This morning my post-woman gave me a post-van !!smiley

A Citroën 2cv in post livery !

I already had one, but with many paint chips and I wanted to improve my cabinet !!cheeky

The surprise is that, in fact,  it is a variation of my old one !

So I have to keep both !!

Kind regards

Richard

Re : New arrivals

Arrivals this week ...

(AA box almost certainly a repro)

... and with space reserved for two buses I haven't received yet, I'm officially out of space. (Already there's no room for the AA set!)

Re : New arrivals

Thank you, Jan!

Meantime the postlady surprised me today with two more parcels, one from the Netherlands and one from the UK. Obviously the vans are repaints, but I fell for their charm and patina, and they were low-cost. (No room to display them anywhere, though -- arrrgh.)

The Atlantean has come out looking rather gray in the photo, but it is the white version ...

I have one more Dinky on the way to me, and given my track record it would be rash to say it's my last-ever. But unless I somehow can obtain yet another original Dinky shop display, I might just be done ...

Re : New arrivals

I love those later 28 series Vans, and only wish Meccano had re-issued them post-war with a variety of liveries..... it was perfect for that!
Best regards,
Terry

Re : New arrivals

No vintage diecast this time, but no less happy, on the contrary: this morning a first copy of my new catalogue supplement (2017) arrived from the printer. I finished editing on the 4th of June and now, after some weeks of mutual feed back in between, they printed and bound this first tangible copy for me. Hard cover, size 24,5 x 17,5 cm, 71 pages (overall catalogue pages 1025-1095), 128 illustrations, 35 acquisitions described. Always an exciting moment to check if everything went right. And it did! Kind regards, Jan

Re : New arrivals

What beautiful catalogues, Jan!

Meanwhile my last Dinky Toy -- well, for a while, anyway -- arrived today. I was pleased to get this uncommon bus.

As members will probably already know, this promotional came affixed to a plinth. Mine had obviously been removed so the recipient's child could play with it, but one can see the hole drilled in the base where the screw was.

Re : New arrivals

A very unusual variation, one of which I was not aware, and one to watch out for. I presume the lettering is by paper labels rather than transfers?

Kevin.

Re : New arrivals

Kevin, in fact the lettering is --unusual for Meccano Ltd. in this period -- via transfers. Vectis has stated in past listings that there were only 50 produced, but I think it more likely that there were 500.

Here is a picture from a current eBay auction (Buy It Now price £895!) showing how the model was originally supplied.

Re : New arrivals

The London & Manchester Assurance bus is a very nice addition to your collection.  I doubt I'll ever manage to get one of these, but I do have a nice Code 3 version which was made by someone (not me) to represent a real bus which carried this advert on the 1970s.  The most impressive feature is the way they have moved the staircase to match this particular bus - check the window layout on the lower deck.  The green and yellow bus has also had a similar operation carried out (also not by me - I don't have the skill or patience for this!).

Re : New arrivals

Richard—-More very nice additions! I always wanted one of the Tri-porteur’s and finally found one several years ago. I am not sure of the variations, but am pretty sure mine must be a later one.....
Best regards, Terry

Re : New arrivals

Terry, your's looks like mine and it's probably the later version.

Jacques, I never saw this black rider in a sale. Certainly very difficult to find !

For the moment I have two versions : the red and the green with the rider paint in grey !

Kind regards

Richard

Re : New arrivals

Three wonderful additions in the past week or so. The blue/yellow no. 931 Leyland Comet Lorry - in dual numbered blue striped Dinky Toys box - as a companion to my slightly earlier red/yellow no. 531 with ridged hubs - and the familiar no. 642 Pressure Refueller, an early example with smooth inside cabin roof. Finally an addition to my 'second love', the 1/1200 - 1/1250 ship models: a Wiking representation of the pre-war British aircraft carrier(s) H.M.S. Glorious / H.M.S. Courageous. This one very heavy (294 g) despite its modest size of 189 mm. I'm not sure yet if it's a pre-war issue or a post-war re-issue. Kind regards, Jan

These are wonderful -- I especially like the Comet.

Meanwhile, here's what one has to do when there's no more room in the display for a full-size Dinky ...

Re : New arrivals

Another Dinky arrived today -- one of the few still on my want list -- and was immediately put to work.

It's too bad about the condition of the decals and the lack of the box. However, as readers may be aware, this model came in a box that was covered with a specially printed color sleeve. Samples that still have the sleeve are scarce and very expensive, so I decided I might as well settle for this one. After all, work to be done!

Re : New arrivals

Hi all,

I am always on the lookout for something unusual and I came across a late issue 978 Bedford TK Rubish Truck. It is fitted with green plastiuc wheels that I have not seen before, slightly smaller than the cast metal ones previously fitted.   The chevrons on the back are also different

Hallo Gentleman.

I saw the post on the 978 Refuge Wagon. Here are pictures of the what I have. Interresting Ron F that my model has red plastic hubs. The more tattered model have the cast hubs like yours. Note the box and the model colours are different than yours.

Re : New arrivals

Ron — I believe I have seen that variant for sale before, but I haven’t seen one in person.

A warning: I have one Dinky (the Mexican Brinks truck) that has plastic wheels as well as plastic tyres. The two types of plastic have interacted with one another and the wheels are slightly melted, while the tyres cannot now be removed.

The tyres on your Bedfords all look to be rubber, but I thought I’d mention it. (The plastic ones have “heavy duty” written on the sidewalls.)
