Jonathan....Just splendid....very nice. I always liked that particular color combination. I only have the bright yellow one with red flashes, and it almost looks like a school bus......Comgrats on another nice find!
Best regards,
Terry

I always wanted to own a yellow convertible ...

Wow——That looks so nice in yellow! I only have a somewhat worn red own, with a broken windshield. Finding a nice yellow one was on my radar the past few years, until I stopped buying new models. I am very envious.....looks very nice....congrats on a nice acquisition!
Best regards, Terry

Terry -- quickest reply ever! Obviously we were both thinking Dinky this afternoon!

Yes, the yellow really pops. I think I'd only seen the red one in person before (though I don't have one myself). It's a much brighter yellow than, for example, the Eldorado convertible, which I now have it parked next to.

A truly lovely addition, Jonathan, still wanting in my collection!

With reference to my recent Wiking ship model addition a fellow collector donated three nice pre-war Dinky Toys ships the other day, in good to excellent condition. Very much appreciated!

These loose models are always very welcome for me in order to slowly improve the contents of my no. 50 Ships of the British Navy set. As soon as I will be satisfied with the all-over quality of the set I will try to re-string the contents, with one long string, the way it should be. Kind regards, Jan

Jan, what a fine set of ships! One can't help but be in awe of the wide variety of subjects and models Dinky left us with ...

Good Morning all

I have recently acquired a no 42b Police Motor Cycle Patrol (The one with a side car). I noticed that the wheels were different on the motor cycle that the one on the side car. As far as I can tell the model has not been tampered with and the wheels look original. One of my other motor cycles has the same white tyres as this one and another has the same black tyres as this one on the side car. But I have not seen one with the combination. In the Dinky Toys Book 7th Ed by Dr Force, bottom part of page 16 I see the different wheels, but as I said never the white and the black wheels on the same model. Does anybody know more about it.

Thank You

Dirk Bloem

Hi Friends.

Almost three weeks in the south-west, back home yesterday evening and in my letter-box, these little things :

I will complete the Holden topic with a detail that I discover.

Cheers

Richard

Hi Dirk Bloem, the one you show above is the no. 43b RAC Motor Cycle Patrol. It seems that the side car's wheel isn't only different in colour, but also in size. This example, with its white tyres/wheels on the Motor Cycle, may be either very late pre-war or very early post-war. The slightly smaller black wheel, however, is most probably a (wrong size) later replacement in my opinion. This is the Rubber Wheel no. 10118/098, meant to be a replacement for early dublo size Dinky Toys, like the no. 35b/200 Racer/Midget Racer.

Richard, nice 'little things'.

Kind regards, Jan

Jan—-I agree with your comments, and would tend to guess it was an early post war version, still using white tires until they were used up, and someone likely replaced that sidecar tire, which would be very easy to do. As an aside, I do not think it a pre-war version, as it does not show the extra detailing present on those.....both on the driver and the motorcycle.
Best regards, Terry

Hallo Terry

I will get a closer loot at the axle again. I do not think it is a pre war model. The casting is far to "good". I confirm there is no extra detailing.

Dirk
For sure it is not pre-war.....I have a pre-war version of the RAC, and the driver has lots of extra detail....white shirt, buttons painted, etc. and on the right side of the motorcycle the cylinder head and exhaust pipe are painted silver.
It is possible, though very unlikely, that it was made that way. Jan and I agree that the original white tire on the sidecar likely went flat, and it was easily replaced with a current black one. That rear axle is only slightly flattened on the end, so replacing that tire would be easy. But Dinky did use old stocks of white tires for a short time after WWII....I have several examples, so white tires alone are not indicative of pre-war vintage. You may certainly leave it as is......the choice is yours!

Hi Jan

Thank you for the comment, I really cannot see any altering to the axle. It is a well used model but still good for me to display. I will not correct the wheel.

I posted earlier that I do have 2 Dragon's (military, 1 with driver and 1 without) with the same black wheels on as well. A friend of mine has the pre war tank in 2 colours (Green and camo) also all original. Originally it should have chains on.

Hi, as all axle ends are rounded it's definitely post-war. Kind regards, Jan

LIttle enough to be squeezed in still ... I had a few of the prewar figures (including three lady hikers for some reason!) but not the complete set ...

I've sorted them by model number, but whether that's the order they originally came in the box, I don't know!

Jonathan—-I love these pre-war figure sets, with their colorful hand painted clothes, and super detailing......they are just delightful. Must have been so time consuming doing these......lots of ladies sitting at benches, with a handful of tiny paint brushes. Very nice Jonathan!
Best regards,
Terry

Beautiful box + contents, Jonathan. No doubt you have been searching for pictures showing a (seemingly) originally strung set in order to restore the official composition of your set. I did not find one, anyway. With some patience it may show up some time, or someone else on the forum may know. Kind regards, Jan

Yes, the detail on these sets was amazing. I’ve read of other companies (Britains?) where the fine detailing was actually done by employees working at home on a piecework basis. However it was done for Meccano Ltd., this human touch means that none of these figures is exactly alike!

As you say, Jan, a picture of the original presentation and stringing for the set would be useful. I have not been able to locate one either!

My lovely Post Lady brought me a parcel today containing this wonderful French Dinky, one that has been on my wanted list for years. It is in excellent to near-mint condition, apart from discolouration of the transfers, with a very good box, and at an affordable price.

Wow, you must be very happy indeed with this wonderful model, Kevin! Box and model are in fantastic shape - and discolouration of the transfers on these older French Dinky Toys is virtually inevitable. Congratulations and kind regards, Jan

The transporter is one I wanted for a long time too until I got one. (Beware -- the weight of the trailer will flatten its tyres if they are not elevated, especially if you display it with cars on board. I found this out the hard way.)

Meantime, I had an arrival today as well. I had wanted one of these one-year wonders to put to work for a long, long time. (I was aware of it even when "new" but Dinky Toys were essentially unavailable in the U.S. in 1970.) This one has no box, but she'll do.

Jan and johnny,

You can look at the photos in the Jacques encyclopédia !

Kind regards

Richard, of course I looked at the Encyclopaedia, and my figures are in the same order as the prewar examples shown there. But, the pictures Jacques used do not show tied-down figures, so I would still like to see an original set that has not been unstrung.

G'day Gents

Two great lots arrived this week. One local, one international. I didn't think I'd ever get a Joseph Mason Paints Mini but this one turned up at a reasonable price, only thing missing is the Paints sign from the headboard.

Further angles on all these items can be found at the bottom of the page at the link below.

My other arrivals from the last year or so are at this link:

Thanks for looking.

Cheers

Dave

The Joseph Mason van and the fire station personnel, two of my favorite Dinky Toy items ever!!

I’ve had a Mason van for a few years, and honestly don’t remember what I paid, but as the old advertising slogan went, “the quality remains long after the price is forgotten.”

That's quite a fleet of additions, Dave. Many of them quite interesting.

An addition of mine worth mentioning is a brown companion to my dark green Vauxhall, no. 30d. It is in wonderful near mint condition, very shiny axles, a lot of plate on the grill still surviving. Other remarkable characteristics are the original silver painted hubs and the early finely treaded tyres. Contrary to the green one with its open base plate this examples' base plate is closed, so slightly later post-war. Kind regards, Jan

Thanks Guys

Another addition this week, non Dinky but a perfect if quirky accompaniment to some of my Prewar Dinky models, one of the tractors is a repaint and the van is a white metal copy, aside from that everything is original:
