A couple of oldies arrived today, both near mint replacements for poorer models.
The no. 257 Fire Chief's Car is a replacement for the example which was included in my recently acquired Fire Service Set, which turned out to have some touch-ups. This one is all clean and, fortunately, it was offered unboxed. The wonderful, bright blue no. 29e Single Deck Bus with coloured hubs just shows some slight rust on some of the crimped axle ends. Very happy with these improvements! Kind regards, Jan
Jan---Very nice replacements indeed.....I especially like that light blue version of the Single Deck Bus. It seems to suit it so well. I was also in the midst of trying to replace some of my lesser condition Dinky's when I retired from collecting, so I only replaced some.
Best regards, Terry
Jonathan,
Yes the light blue Austin 1800 is rare. Do not look for a yellow end flaps box, there are not any. This is the only Dinky which has been packed exclusively in yellow Visi-Pacs. It is also together with the Vauxhall Victor 101 the first Dinky with Hi-Lite headlights which are different to the jewelled lenses.
That Spitfire brooch is a real beauty!
Light blue suits the Austin 1800 much better than the usual metallic hue. Check the bonnet and the boot - some are metallic blue underneath. My light-blue example has 3 lines of text for the patent, compared to 3 lines on my metallic-blue one.
Hi Fred
you probably mean : "3 lines of text for the patent, compared to 2 lines on my metallic-blue one".
Please lets continue this discussion on the proper thread at : http://www.dtcawebsite.com/forum-topic/171-austin-1800-saloon
Jacques
The Hi-Lite headlights were very attractive and realistic, and it's a pity they were only fitted to a few Dinkies. The only ones I can think of are: Austin 1800, Vauxhall Victor 101, Ford Mustang, Hillman Imp, Leyland Dump Truck, AEC Artic BRS, and with most of these only some of the production run had the Hi-Lites. By the time the Austin 1800 became a taxi it was fitted with normal jewelled headlights. What other Dinky Toys were fitted with Hi-Lites? I haven't included cars like the Aston Martin DB5 and DB6 which had specially-shaped headlights.
Just arrived from China. This mutant Atlas model has certainly been made in Wuhan. Do wear goggles to look at it, il may be contagious.
Well Jacques, I wasn't going to mention it, since this isn't and wasn't ever a Dinky, but we have a shop in my town called F. Rapopoli and I noticed several versions of this in their window. There was a yellow, red, and a white version, all of which had logos on the sides. Unfortunately the shop was closed but I know the owner and I telephoned and reserved two of each. There was a tampoed version for our local zoo, Port Lympne, which showed a monkey on the rear doors, and the red one was for the Dandy comic. The white one purported to be a Batman spinoff vehicle belonging to The Joker.
I could ring again, if anyone is interested in purchasing them.
Kind regards
John
Is that for real, or Photoshop? Either way it is the stuff of nightmares!
Johnny,
It is not real, I just like to play with Photoshop which is a fanttic software. I wish that I could follow a course on Photoshop.
There are two nightmares with this model : the virus and the Atlas models.
Received this morning, just in time for May day.
Dear Jacques, I suspect this message to belong to the category of 'fake news'!
Kind regards, Jan
There is a possible variation to this lamp post : the high voltage line.
A still life of recent additions. The crown jewel is no doubt the ultra-rare 'Dieselelektrischer Kran auf LKW-Fahrgestell', the German promotional of the no. 972 Coles 20-ton Lorry Mounted Crane, issued in the early 1960s by the German branch of Coles in Duisburg. I referred to its existence in The Journal of January 2016. A private special is the mug with representation of my entire 555/955 collection. Kind regards, Jan
O U A A H H H H ! ! ! !
Probably the rarest Dinky Toys box.
Congratulations
Wow, Jonathan, that's a big blow! Quite some of these sixpacks have come onto the market recently.
For me the Job's was also the first one to get acquainted with. The Lorry Mounted Crane promo above I have never seen recorded before, not published in any book or article, as far as I'm aware. I have written an article for The Journal now.
Are you convinced these are probably your last? I am not. Kind regards, Jan
Jan -- I am out of space for new displays or models and do not want to acquire any Dinky Toys I cannot display; but you are right, history proves that as long as I live, I will be susceptible to Dinky charms.
I am looking forward to your Journal article on the Lorry Mounted Crane. This is indeed one of the most exceptional Dinky promos ever, and it will be wonderful to hsve more information about it.
Wow.....Too late a model for this early, senior collector, but still very nice......and somehow I’m not too surprised to see one more! Nice going Jonathan!
Best regards,
Terry
Hi guys.
After 3 months of confinement in the south-west, back home !
And in the mail box, of course, some Dinkys
A Commer breakdown lorry with a curious box with the inscription DINKY TOYS in italics and a green sticker on one end.
Also a Healey boat in the red version.
5 Bedford articulared lorry just waiting to be pictured.
Cheers
Hi Richard, that's quite a fleet of Bedford artics, collected in 'no time'. Congratulations!
It took me forty years of buying, selling and swapping to gather merely three examples
Kind regards, Jan
Hi Jan. Yes I was lucky to find so much items in a short time, but I know your requirements on the quality of your models and it's probably a little bit longer to find the perfect exemplar.
Kind regards.
Richard
