-796 Healey Sports Boat on Trailer (1960-62)

This post has been transfered from the post "Wheel variations".

There have been at least two variations of the 796 Trailer for the Healey Sport Boat.

The one on the left is the common one with a third wheel at the front. The one on the right is much rarer and on this the front 'jockey wheel' has been replaced with a skid.

I suspect that this was towards the end of the production and was done as a cost cutting exercise.

David,

In fact there are nine variations of the trailer.

1) With three smooth grey wheels and riveted tin plate tow bar.
2) With smooth grey main wheels, treaded grey jockey wheel and riveted tin plate tow bar.
3) With three treaded grey wheels and riveted tin plate tow bar.
4) With three black wheels and riveted tin plate tow bar.
5) With three black wheels and riveted unpainted tin plate tow bar.
6) With three black treaded wheels and tow bar cast with the trailer. As on David's picture above.
7) With two black treaded wheels and tow bar cast with the trailer. As on David's picture above.
8) With two grey smooth wheels and tow bar cast with the trailer.
9) With two grey treaded wheels and tow bar cast with the trailer.

Although the version 2 with grey treaded wheels is shown on the July 1961 issue of the M.M., I have not yet seen one. Have you ?

About 749,650 minutes later, and we are still waiting for those two more images you mentioned back in November 2014!  Any chance of these and any other images of the trailer that you may have found during the intervening period to be added to this topic?wink

It is time to wake up this topic.

Here are my two versions of the Healey sport boat : one with three black wheels and one with only two black wheels.

Kind regards

Richard

Just been reading this section, I do have two trade boxes of just the boat, no trailer. There are 3  yellow versions of the boat in one of the trade boxes.

Are the trailers found in trade boxes as well?

David,

There are no tradeboxes for the trailers, they only come with the boat in yellow boxes or gold then yellow visi-pacs.

I know only one type of tradebox, it has the reference 50 797, it is the only box of this type as the reference is not above the black oval but at the botom right of the box end. If your boxes are different, some pictures will be welcomed.

The trailers do not have a commercial reference number in the 79x series, they certainly have a job number but so far it is not known. It must be something between 60 290 and 60 296.

My two are the same, one is for the home market with a retail price written on as '1/6 then alltered to '1/9. The other is for the American market, it has the Dobson label on it with a pricing sticker of 85 cents. Still going through my price lists but have seen that May 1962, the 10th edition price list shows that the the retail price for the boat was 1/9,The 8th edition does not give a price but states price will be available later, have not got the 9th edition to check but suspect it will show 1/6 . My home market Trade Box example must have been bought from the year of the 9th edition, 1961 I think, but not all sold so the price was changed to be in line with the retail price of the 10th edition Dinky catalogue, and sadley still all did not sell, as still in the box and now in my possession.

Here is a photo of what could be the prototype 797, with apologies for the poor quality of the image.

Hi all, Jose Heraud, on reading this thread, asked me to post the text and photos below, which he sent to me re. this Dinky Toys Healey Sports Boat on Trailer:

"... The Dinky model was based on the Healey Marine Sportsboat Model 55 (2nd. edition), made in 1957.

This model is a six-seater and has an inboard motor, with mahogany deck and fiberglass hull or marine plywood.

It is 14'-9" long, and 5'-6" wide, with a height of 2'-2". The shape and inside seats correspond perfectly to the Dinky model .

Here's the link: https://healey-marine.com/For%20sale/healey%20marine%2055.html

I also include a photo of the Meccano prototype made in metal.

Thanks for your help.

Best regards, Jose"
