Dinky Toys leaflet Airfix Stand Toy Fair at Earls Court 1980 ??

Today I received an UK Toy Fair leaflet with new models of the Airfix Stand at the International Toy Fair at Earls Court 1980 ?? It has four pages. I have an Airfix order form from April 1980, but does not match with the model numbers from this leaflet. So it must be after April 1980. Does someone know when this Toy Fair was and can someone add an order form or price list that matches well with the model numbers of this leaflet?

Jan,

Perhaps your question will be better answered by a UK reader -- I am in California -- but my information is that the last toy fair Dinky Toys were shown at was the British Toy and Hobby Fair, held at Earls Court in January 1980. Meantime there is an "International Toy Fair" held in New York every February.

Here are still some additional scans of Meccano / Dinky Toys Trade catalogs and price lists to get an impression of the Sale publications around the final period of Meccano Ltd Liverpool Binns Road.

Jan---Quite a collection you have assembled. Since I basically quit collecting Dinky Toys around 1960, seeing this much later material is interesting, though sad as the end was near. Thanks for sharing with us!

Thanks Terry for your nice comment. My intention is to show occasionally some interesting details of my "paper" Dinky Toys collection.

I remember exactly when and where I was when I heard Meccano had closed down.  Surely it would still be possible to get spare parts for my dinky toys like I always had when bits broke off...  thought the twelve year old me.

Thanks Al. Here are some of the final latest models of Binns Road. 113 Steed's Jaguar with the box is a code 3 and never issued. The bottom shelf is waiting for the new models of Binns Road that never came.

Hi Jan, nice to see a selection of your Dinky catalogues. I must confess that I have hardly any Dinky of those final years. It was in that era that I resumed collecting Dinky Toys and I thought it would be wise not just to collect antiquarian Dinky Toys, but also contemporary examples. However, in the course of time I experienced more and more that these later Dinky Toys did not last in my appreciation, and they all left in favour of pre-1960 Dinkies.

May be you like me to show two contemporary curiosities though. First a (pre-digital) photo of a display in the 2001 Meccano 100 anniversary exhibition in Liverpool, in which so many items were exhibited of that later period (because many still living employees could share memories and artifact relics of those final years). It shows three prototypes of the Lunar Rover (which you show in your display), a catalogue and the design drawing for the driver astronauts in the vehicle. Also some office door plates, saved from the factory.

Secondly the only Dinky of that period in my collection, being a special issue from the Argentine 'Namac', their national miniature cars association, ACAMRA. At a suitable time I intend to also post them in the correct model threads.

Kind regards, Jan

Thanks Jan for your response and your very interesting material. I think you have a large archive of Binns Road material. It is very nice to see such material. Because I have some models from the very beginning I wanted also to have some models of the final period to show on display...and in order to show the change of material. These models also belong to the history of Dinky Toys. Of the 361 Galactic War Chariot example are also many variations, which I actually do not collect.

Kind regards, Jan

Just managed to find this thread and perhaps the one for the price lists. I also enjoy the collecting of the printed information, am currently trying to get all the catalogues and price lists. Just found edition 9 that I previously said was missing so entering the prices now.

The dating of the boxes that have stamps that are ilegible or non existant, the retail price written on the box can be a very usefull indication of the period the contents of the box were offered for sale when compared with the list I am preparing..

May ask for one or two more scans of fill ins.

Just received the most recent Ramseys' and am checking to see what I am missing but find that their list is not complete or my interpretation is wrong.

Will I be able to add my list to this site somewhere that can be added to ie some sort of complete register.

David
