Celebrating the Dinky 39 series....a wonderful set of American motor cars from the late 1930's. Most of these exist as postwar re-issues, and were made in several colors. I like taking pictures of them in pairs, so here they are....
Terry
First, the Packard and the Chrysler
Nice 39-set, Terry. The Studebaker is an early one, obviously, and with an attractive colour!
SOME OF MY DAIRY VANS - AS SEEN THROUGH THE CAMERA OF MR. BUSFIELD
Those 39 series cars are absolutely lovely, I do not own any of these and the problem is I have run out of space, I am trying to improve on what I have got rather than expand. I already have about ten items in boxes and I think this is a waste with them not being seen.
Dave
Dave---I think that "space management" is an issue with most collectors, and some of these guys collect a bit of everything, literally thousands of models. My wife and I have talked about re-doing our upstairs bonus room, where my display is now, and making it much larger and better. I am now totally out of room....that is after squeezing in several extra glass shelves in my cabinet, and then crowding the models very close together. Any new ones are having to stay in their boxes, but like Jan, that is not ideal for me....I want to be able to see and/or handle my Dinky's.
By the way, last year for the first time, I took out all of my Dinky's and arranged them on several flat tables that I set up, covered in white paper. I had enough space that I did not need to crowd them too much. It was fun to have them all spread out at one time, and I left them out for a couple of weeks that way. Here are a few pictures of them...........
Terry
Wow Terry that is some collection, it looks great laid out like that.
Dave
A pity that you haven't succeeded yet in giving it full permanent display, Terry!
Kind regards, Jan
PROBABLY NOT ALLOWED ON BRITISH OR ANY OTHER ROADS LIKE THIS!
One of my most admired post-1959 Dinky Toys cars, the French no. 555 Ford Thunderbird Cabriolet, in my possession for over half a century already!
LA BELLE AMÉRICAINE
Jan,
Very nice photo.
The gentleman on the wheel also drives an MG B and a Bentley wearing different suits.
TROJAN ON DISPLAY
Jan--The Trojan vans have always been a favorite of many of us...very nice display and photo spread to share with us. I wish my Oxo was as nice as yours!
Terry
Actually Jan, an arrangement like this, a prime mover hauling two trailers is normal in the Outback in Australia. These are called Road Trains, although never hauled by a Guy! Not sure of the usual type of prime mover, but have seen a road train hauled by a Kenilworth with two trailers of similar length to a normal semi-trailer. I have never had to overtake such a beast, and never wish to do so either for that matter, but they do exist!
Like this one? ... and much longer ...
No Dutch highway is that long! :)
Kind regards, Jan
Our club, the Brisbane Model Diecast Collectors Club, held a display day on 7 May 2006.
My display covered Dinky Toys and Dinky Supertoys military releases with the appropriate Meccano Magazine and the four print copies of drawings from the factory. This effort managed Second Place.
Bruce
Hello Jan
This is what I mean by a Road Train!!! ;) Kind regards, Bruce

THREE GENERATIONS OF FIELD GUN SETS
The plastic wheels on the newest one look really nice, sometimes they go funny like the Solido ones.
Dave
Jan
What a fabulous series - both models and boxes in top condition! Well done.
Bruce
Jan--Another very nice photo showing those classic Field Gun Units....what wonderful toys they were for young boys, and they still have some fascination for us guys today!

Hi Jan,
Great picture! It's on Route No13 too!
Chris Warr.
A great picture Jan, David will probably make an identical picture with 29c + 30h + 555. There is also a Bedford van at the rear.
This shows that 13 is not a lucky number, for the passengers on the front seats anyway.
A DESKFUL OF DINKY TANK TRANSPORTERS
Currently I am testing and improving a completely new display which I built last week for optimal daylight photography of my miniature collections etc. Objects up to about 130 cm long (like my miniature ships) can be photographed without a problem under best lighting conditions and without making a mess in the living room! My first modest lighting test of today:
Possibly I can show the display itself as soon as I am completely satisfied with it ...
Jan--
Wonderful lighting effect....full, but soft, and not glaring...I really like it! Is this sunlight filtered through a window or skylight? I have tried to find a suitable area in our house to use daylight, but I don't really have a suitable area for it, with the right amount of natural light. I have tried an outdoors area, on one side of our house, and it someetimes works will when it is in the shade and not direct sunlight, but it is a long way to haul toys out, and I don't have a good table to use out there either, so I keep using my improvised light box in a upstairs room adjacent to my collection...close to cameras, toy, and books.
Am anxious to see more of what you are working on as well as the display in the works. You are always an inspiration to me for the wonderful job you do with photography, and Dave also......you two are amazing!
Terry
Jan and Terry
A flock of Antar Tank Transporters with their detachable trailers. A toy store here in Brisbane became flooded and these were sold off as a bulk purchase without their soggy boxes!
Bruce
Bruce--
Wow...... what a sight! I have never seen that many Mighty Antars together at one time......it was good that they could be salvaged. Do you know when that was?
Terry
Bruce,
Don't forget to check if water got into fuel tanks, before pushing the starter button...
Jacques H.
Jacques H - No worries! Fuel tanks checked, tyres kicked and drivers revived! :)

I have just heard from my friend who owned these Antars, and he told me that these were the last of 30 he bought through an auction here in Brisbane, all unboxed, as the boxes had become damaged through dampness. Apparently the flood might have been my imagination! He also bought 30 972 Coles Lorry Mounted Cranes, all with plastic hubs, again unboxed in the same condition as the 660s without boxes. He also bought about five other Dinky Supertoys but cannot recall what they were. So my friend went home that day, nearly 20 or more years ago with 65 Dinky Supertoys for a very reasonable sum.
Makes one drool doesn't it?!!
Bruce
Close inspection of the Dinky version and the real full size vehicle will show just how accurate Dinky were with the tipping handle on the Euclid.
The real one is resident at a museum about 25 miles (40km) from where I live where it is still a working vehicle, not an exhibit.
Dave
In traffic, handle might prove not too handy...
Most friendly, Dave.
