A few Guy Otters.

I had to sort my Photobucket account out, and split a lot of pictures up into albums, so I thought I'd post a few from the Dinky Guy Otter album:

Cheers,
Chris Warr.

These are Guy Vixens not Otters. The Otter is the more modern replacement for this vehicle.

I believe this originally came from Dr Cecil Gibson but he was wrong.

I will post some more info. on this tomorrow.

Chris--Nice set of Guy vans....I just love that set, the liveries are just wonderful and the various colors delightful. That is also nice that you have the later version with the ketchup bottle...very rare!
Here are some of mine as well........

This was the vehicle which inspired a whole range of superb Dinky Supertoy vehicles which began to appear in 1947.

Note the famous Guy Indian mascot on the top of the radiator, I will dig out a photograph of one of these later.

Right you are Dave,
Amongst other things the Otter had a different cab window line to the Dinky model, so it is clearly a Vixen, learn something every day!
Mine aren't in great condition, and I will upgrade them as finances allow, but I always wanted a full set of vans,
Chris Warr.

Here is a real Guy Van Indian mascot

It is about 10cms tall.

Dave--
Thanks for showing us that.....that is quite a mascot to have and to use! Was that only used on the older trucks?

It was certainly used in the 1940s and 50s. I think it had gone by the 1960s.

I made a photo of another nice one:

By the way, some people have too many Weetabix Vans (David Cooke collection):

From the Meccano Magazine of September 1951 comes this nice little goods yard scene with Hornby '0' gauge railways a Dinky Leyland Comet and a couple of Dinky Guy Vixens.

A pictorial tribute to the Dinky Toys Guy trucks, as advertised in the 1951 (Dutch) catalogue:

Another fascinating piece, I can add another snippet to this.

The picture at the bottom still shows the original owner of the Guy (Ballards Transport from Surrey) and the new signs for the British Road Services.

The BRS markings have been crudely put on top of the old markings so this will date the photograph to early 1948 when road transport was nationalised in Britain.

A nice link as it was very much around this time when the first Dinky Guys were introduced and they were difficult to get hold of as exports took priority at this time.
