--31c and 452 Trojan 15 cwt Van 'Chivers' (1953-57)

In the UK  a new Trojan van has just been issued and as it was only £3.99 I bought one for me and my grandson.

It compares well with the Dinky Trojan

Dave,

I have had a couple of these for around five years now (they are not "new" issues), and was told at the time that they were commissioned by Mornflake from Corgi  who also made some 1/64 scale "Superhaulers" articulated trucks in the same livery.

These castings are almost identical  to the Dinky Trojan, apart from the obvious missing front bumper and addition of numberplates front and rear. They were made in China, with black plastic baseplate and wheels, and it does seem obvious that a slightly modified Dinky casting was used as the master. The box gives information about the Mornflake Oats Company of Crewe, Cheshire, which was established its cornmills in 1675 and has recently had a complete change of livery on its vehicles. The box also shows a nice photo of the real Trojan at work in the 1950's.

This little model makes a nice companion to the Dinky originals in the cabinet.

The jellies of Chivers Jellies.

I like these contemporary advertisements for products that are advertised on some of the Dinky Toys vans. Some examples of the amply present pictures on the internet below. For other discussions on this van I may restrict myself to referring to this thread of talkmodeltoys: http://www.talkmodeltoys.com/discus/messages/27668/1195.html?1180600684

Kind regards, Jan

Jan---Those Trojan Vans used a nice variety of liveries, and makes collecting them fun. About 20 years ago, I realized I only had a few of the many small commercial vehicles, in their various liveries, so I set about collecting them. These included the Trojan, Bedford, and Austin Vans, as well as the several Studebaker tanker trucks, and then the French models too. I came to really love all these liveries, in the many different colors, and Dinky did a great job in replicating all those Logos and designs. Thanks for reminding us with this nice example!
Best regards, Terry
