On posting several images of the end-flap extension for this model in the British Dinky Toys 686 25-Pounder Field Gun topic, I decided to make the images and others available on this new topic.
The Peugeot 204 was released in 1965 and production in France for this model ceased in 1968. The model was then assembled in Spain during 1968. Between 1968 and 1971 it was made (in France?) for export to Spain. Then in 1977 to 1978 the model was manufactured in Spain. A promotional model is known to have been made in 1981 for an election campaign.
I know very little about French Dinky, so I will pass the baton over to those who do!

I had not forgotten the Cabriolet. However this is a separate model No. 511 and should have its own Thread/Topic. I do not have any of these, so perhaps you might like to start a new topic "511 Peugeot 204 Cabriolet".
Can you please post pictures of the sides of your 510 Peugeot 204 models, both the French and Spanish boxes and if you can include the models on top of each box, that would be great, as I would like to see them and how different the Spanish versions are to the French boxes. Do your boxes have the diamond cut-out on the side panel that shows the colour of the model inside?

It is interesting that the Spanish version changes the rear bumper with the deletion of the number plate holder. No doubt Jacques will have an explanation as to why!

Many thanks for the additional photographs of both the French and Spanish versions.
The alteration to the engine is most likely due to the change from rivet to screw. And the deletion of the rear rivet may have been due to Mazark flow and to overcome this problem the method of securing the rear part of the base plate was to slot the base plate into the area behind the bumper bar that necessitated the deletion of the number plate to provide additional metal in this area. Just a thought!

The change of the Dinky Toys rear bumper was done because Peugeot did it and Meccano followed. This change was probably made when the tools were transferred to Spain. The later casting was also available under the marque Auto-Pilen.
The deletion of the rear rivet / screw is a cost improvement. The slot to insert the base plate into the body is cast with the body and costs nothing but a small change to the dies of the body and base plate. This saves one screw and the time to screw it as well as painting the number plate which is now part of the black base plate.
I am not aware of a promotional model for the 1981 elections which marked the beginning of the decline of France which lasts until today and certainly for at least one more year. You may be mistaken by some Solido models.

For the 1981 presidential election Solido made a model for each candidate except for the commie who did not want Solido to make profit out of her name. The five models were sold separately or in a set.
Other variations are that the Spanish issue has no suspension or steering and the very early French models were not marked BTE S.G.D.G. which means patented. White French steering wheel and black Spanish one. Black treaded rubber French tyres and Dunlop vinyl Spanish ones.

When I wrote "A promotional model is known to have been made in 1981 for an election campaign" my reference was Ramsay's British Diecast Model Toys Catalogue, 15th edition published in 2015. This reference to a promotional model 510 has been published in each edition of the catalogue since 2003. With the number of prestigious collectors who have provided John Ramsay with assistance over the years, I am surprised that in the intervening 13 years, nobody has drawn his attention to this promotional model being incorrect. I presume you have never perused this catalogue otherwise you would have acted accordingly.
I would suggest that you communicate with the editorial team and have this reference deleted if you consider it to be inaccurate.

I did not write that the model does not exist but that I was not aware of it. I am sure that there are still some finish variations to be found.
Roulet does not mention this variation in his books.
Also, why make an election promotional with a small car ? These guys run smart cars only at our expanses not Peugeot 204.


I was wrong in my post above, the yellow Renault 4 was not made for the 1981 election for which all the models were Renault 25.
I did participate in Ramsays a long time ago but the address that I have is obsolete. My only copy is the 10 th. edition probably from last century.
While I was writing this, I have received an email from a nice guy which says : "QDT sold some recently.".

On reading your Post, I checked out my Peugeot 204, and it too has the same peculiarity in that the inside of the bonnet (hood to those across the pond!) is also unpainted. I wonder which is more common, painted or unpainted?
I must photograph mine and include it in this Post. (Probably one of these days!!)

Further to my above Post #14, I have at last photographed the underside of the bonnet/hood of my Peugeot 204 showing that this feature was not painted.
With Richard's example also being unpainted, does this indicate that a large part of the production run of this model are the same, or are Richard's and mine unique? I am inclined to think of the former rather than the latter.
