--22c Motor Truck (1933-50)

I just received a recent purchase of a 22c Motor Truck, and am delighted by the wonderful overall condition it is still in. In checking the various sources, it appears that this first appeared around 1935, and was then re-issued after the war, probably in late 1945 or 1946. It is stated that the rear window disappeared in 1947, so this pre-dates that. Of interest, it also has the original white tires, in great shape, and also what appear to be pre-war smooth wheels, with a shiny finish, and also has the black wings or fenders. I could see no information on when the black wings were dropped. I am also showing another 22c, from a little bit later time, still with rear window, but black tires and smooth, non-ridged hubs, but finished in more of matte black instead of shiny. It is also interesting to note that the earlier one also has quite a bit more overspray on the underside, but I would imagine that is a difference dependent on whom was doing the spraying at that moment, rather than a change.

A really nice little model....I happen to like the black wings and the white tires.

Never noticed before, but now it became obvious to me that earlier Motor Trucks have a flatter bonnet than later ones. The proof is given both by Terry's example above and by one of my recently added Motor Trucks (with open rear window). This characteristic is well visible when comparing the base line of the split wind screens, which is almost flat for the ones with flatter bonnet and angled for the later ones. There is a theoretical possibility that various moulds were used at the same time. If so, this should be demonstrated by such examples of other collectors. More to be read about this model in The Binns Road Gazette 1999:5.

The same goes for the no. 30e Breakdown Van. See pictures below. Kind regards, Jan

Hello Jan,

I have some more additions to the 22c Motor truck. First models 1934 had a small tail bar underneath. My model has also silver plated hubs. The first issue must have Tootsy style wheels. One of my pre war model has a very small number plate casted. This feature is not documented in the change orders on the drawing. First picture on the left you see just a small bar, on the right you can see the plate. Second picture shows the plate on the left model. Third picture shows a post war large tail bar.

The small truck must be one of the first produced after 1945. It still had some pre war features, smooth hubs, open rear window. However already thicker axles and a large tail bar underneath.

John.

Hello Jan,

You give me to much credits. In fact thanks to your contributions we are pressed to look better at our models. So even after many years we look with other eyes and a fresh view to our models and see the differences we never saw before. So please continue.

John.
