Hi all,
Big one for me this one, finally got a Type 1 28,

Apart from that broken axle support, which a blob of superglue will cure it really is nice,
waited a LONG time for this one. and the price was pretty good considering.

This recent 'happy collecting milestone' of mine, the French no. 33c Miroitier Simca 'Cargo', deserves a better article, but time is lacking.
So, in this 'new arrivals' thread I make the quick observation that the left hand side of the panel on top shows the name 'Saint-Gobain', whereas the other side (not visible here) reads 'Miroitier'.

All publicity pictures in the regular catalogues, also on the box, show 'Miroitier' on the left hand side, instead of 'Saint-Gobain'.

However, I found an early picture, showing the correct position, in the French Meccano catalogue of 1957.
Kind regards, Jan

Hello Jan.
Both do exist !
You can also find, in the yellow colour, a model without any publicity as shown on the photo below.

A stunning variety of glaziers lorries you have, Richard! Even the positions of the mirrors are different
I do not intend to add more varieties, as I am glad to have this basic first 33c version Simca at last. But I may surrender if a cheap m/b variant model comes along ... (which happens more and more these days).
And congratulations with the growing Studebaker family!
Kind regards, Jan

Hi Jan / Richard,
The Simca glass lorry is one of my absolute favourites, I love the use of a simple piece polished metal to make the mirror. I always thought it was a pity you only got the one though.
Wonderful models!

Hi all,

Here is my latest addition: 62p Armstrong Whitworth Airliner in very nice condition given it is unboxed and around 65 years old. It still retains some silvering on the wheels. One of the larger Dinky Airplanes.
Kind regards,
Rob

An eventful week for my collection.

We had our twice yearly swapmeet here in Auckland and I picked up the following:

Mercedes Benz 230SL

Ferrari P5

Vauxhall Viva

BCC Outdoor Camera

Plus these arrived from overseas:

Guy Flat Truck

Boxed 504 Tanker

885 Boxed Saviem Pipe Truck - box lid is a bit shot. I managed to pick up an excellent box also which is still to arrive.

I also purchased the following boxed elevator loader off our local auction site

I cheekily asked if the seller had any other Dinky's they were prepared to part with, they said they had a few and we set up a time for me to pick up.

Upon arrival I was very surprised to find the following sitting on the table with the loader:

Pre War Set 51 Famous Liners box in reasonable condition.

I knew nothing about this set before seeing it so was amazed to open it and find this

A few too many ships you will notice. The 5 additional larger scale vessels all being Triang.

3 of the original ships, the others have succumbed to fatigue, exploded and been discarded some 40 years ago. So I now have the task of reassembling the fleet.

Lastly also sitting on the table was a 785 Service Station, slightly playworn, complete minus the doors but undamaged

Thanks to my iPad and internet banking they all left with me.

Hi Dave,
Blimey! They must have been pleased to see you at the Toyfair!
Some lovely stuff there mate, that ships set is amazing! Which ones are you missing?
Boxed 504 is lovely, that was my first boxed Foden 20 odd years ago, I can still remember walking back to my van so excited to have it.
The Triang Minic ships are worth holding on to as well, really nice models.
Great stuff mate!

Hey Chris.

This was the first swap meet I had a table at too. I ended up selling more to other collectors / dealers prior to the doors opening than I did in the remaining four hours open to the public. I purely reinvested my takings in more Dinky's and some other models.

I'm missing the following ships / liners:

Norddeutscher Lloyd "Europa"
CPR "Empress of Britain"
P&O Strathaird

If you run across any f these in your travels it would be good if you could grab if they still have most of their paint and their masts. Likewise if anyone else has one or all of these please send me a pm. From looking at eBay current and completed listings they do not seem to come up often. Quite a few has no doubt gone down the fatigue route.

Cheers

Dave

Hi Dave,
It's usually the way at fairs mate, I buy and sell most of my stuff before or afterwards. You've gone over to the darkside now and become a dealer!
I was hoping you were missing "Rex" as I've got a nice one, and don't really collect the ships, but I checked your pix and you've got one too. :P
I'll keep an eye out for you though.
That Guy is really nice too, quite HTF in that colour / hubs.
All the best.
CW.

Hi Dave,

Fantastic all you new arrivals! Here in Holland we have a large swapmeet in Houten 6 times per year. Sometimes they are scheduled a bit close to each other and you see some stock you have seen before. If you have a swap meet only twice per year it must be a real feast. Proven by your finds! I have been to Auckland and New Zealand once. I loved it so much that I did not search for Dinky Toys. We were simply to busy enjoying your country!
Kind regards,
Rob

Bargain of the day, this 30v Electric Dairy Van 'Express Dairy' :)

Believed and described by the seller to be a clever repaint it cost a mere GBP 16.00! However, this is just a very authentic near mint Dinky Toy.

In fact a personal collecting milestone, completing the regular colour versions of mine. OK, the maroon hubs version wanting ...

Kind regards, Jan

Wonderful Jan!
Well spotted that it wasn't a repaint. I'm deeply impressed you have a mint boxed Jobs, I've been after one for years.

Dave - Nice additions to your collection, and an interesting variation on the 966 Skip Lorry. Both of mine have smooth-sided skips, as shown on the box art, whereas yours has vertical grooves. When did this change occur? Did a similar modification happen to the French Unic?

Greetings from Aotearoa,

I have just received this Dinky 942 Foden 14-ton Tanker "Regent". Nothing special about that except the box is labelled 'Dinky Toys' which I believe is correct for the first issues. How long did it take to change to 'Dinky Supertoys'? The date stamp is 05 55.

Pity the original retailer stuck their label on the top of the lid! H.Robinson & Co. Haverford West.
