Hello Richard

Woops - I should have written "postperson"!!

I can see now why she cannot wait to retire - all these little parcels having to be carried to at least one address!!

Kind regards

Here are a couple of Dinky Toys that arrived today (from different sellers):

The Hillman Minx is almost mint except for a rub on the roof. It is the 'high line' masking of the roof colour. It came from 'just up the road' from Bruce (almost = McKay).

The second item(s) is a mint Leyland Comet Portland Cement. The eBay seller offered the lorry and box in separate Lots - very annoying. I don't think the ploy worked as the overall price was reasonable. A while back another eBay seller had a 666 Missile 'set' where the truck unit was one lot, the box another, the packing pieces another, the launching pad yet another!

Ron, I second that motion from Richard! An excellent catch, especially with the "highline" Hillman Minx!

Just picked this up from an auction house in Derby:

It is in cracking condition.

What an absolutely splendid acquisition! I presume all luxuries are out for the present and that you are now on a bread and water diet to pay for it! To think you not only have the model, but you also have its box, and to boot, the original leaflet that came with it! If you could see me now you would see a nice shade of green!

All I have is this:

I guess it is better than nothing! (So I can hear someone say, be grateful!) I have just noticed something - the word MASON on mine is thicker than yours. Crikey - must dig it out and see if I spent my cash on a lousy restoration! Are the rear doors on your plastic? Just noticed the word PAINT on the roof sign appears larger on mine than yours. Now you have really got me wondering!

Kind regards

Dave, Not wanting to cause trouble but I would have a word with the auction house. It looks to me to be a repaint and photocopy green card and box.
If you google image they all show the masking is nowhere near as precise and the green card is much sharper.
Again, I may be wrong, but just my observation.

As a result of what "Finja" wrote, I had another look at you acquisition, and I must agree with him that something is not quite right especially the leaflet and the box at least. The following are two Mason vans sold through auction in recent times which you may use to confirm with your acquisition.

I may have been a little too hasty with my original response so I urge you to have another look at these. At least have a closer look at the leaflet.

One thing I have noticed is that the lettering of my MASON on the side of the van is similar to the above images.

I hope it is just a poor photograph of your acquisition for your sake and not a reproduction.

Kind regards

Thank you for confirming that the rear doors are plastic. I have never had another one in my hand before, so it is nice to see that these are not replacements.

Hi dave .The lettering on the d & l on your box swirl to the right. Bamfords sold the same model back on feb 28th 2014 .l would compare yours against this & see what you think. Lot no.142. Regards rich g.

I recently bought al AEC Tanker, the Lucas version, on our local auction site, I already had one but the price on this was too good to pass up.

Interestingly there a couple of variations between the two I have.

Headlights - Jewelled and unjewelled, I assumed this model was a short run so am surprised with this variation.

A great acquisition and a very interesting one at that too. Its condition is fabulous.

Knowing very little about this late issue, I am unsure which is the usual version, with or without jewelled headlights and the tank being the same colour as the rest of the chassis, but I am sure there is an expert out there who can provide the answer!

Congratulations though on a fantastic addition to your collection!!

Kind Regards

That's a beauty that is Dave!
Lovely condition on both.

I'm going to add another variation now, mine has painted headlamps with the brown tank.
So, we now have...

Painted Headlamps Olive Tank
Painted Headlamps Brown Tank
Jeweled Headlamps Brown Tank

Any more? Does this one need it's own tread now?

Thanks for the added details. It would be nice if we could see an image of your example that can be added here.

I am sure the new website will have a spot for the 945 AEC Tanker "Lucas Oil, but in the meantime, a new Thread should be created.

You realize that if nobody has done so yet, my homework could very well be going through all my auction catalogues and see which version is more common than the others!!

Kind regards

I have a painted headlamps/brown tank example too.

I always thought jewelled headlights were a thing of the past on the AEC Tanker before the Lucas Oil version was even released! So, this is quite a find and is likely to be the rarest version.

Yes, on the new site there are two threads for the 945; one for ESSO and one for Lucas Oil

Hi everybody.
It was nice to see you at the DTCA meeting last saturday.
Just before the meeting I got the following Leyland Octopus :

I already had one in my collection but, I don't know why, my good angel was telling me : take it, take it   !!

Go the "Factory errors" thread and you will see why !

This afternoon this new addition came in, the French no. 34b Plateau Berliet avec container, a beautiful model in its first state, with convex hubs, round tread black DST tyres, platform and spare hub secured with a screw, container with separate, non-diecast hoisting eye on top, inner cabin roof smooth and no. 34A on the sturdy yellow illustrated box. It was available from 1956 to 1965 according to the catalogues, renumbered 581 in 1959. It keeps the company of its Berliet colleague no. 34A Berliet benne carrières Marrel. I made two pictures tonight, by candle light, because the daylight is diminishing rapidly at night these days. Kind regards, Jan

Hi Jan. Nice model.

I think that it's the second version because it has the hook painted in black instead of grey.

You can see it in the thread that I posted under the tittle :

"Berliet porte container ref. 34B/581"

Perhaps can you put a photo of this Berliet in the "new arrivals" threadblush

Friendly yours.

Richard

Hi Richard, but this IS the new arrivals thread, with - as you can see - the over 380 posts we have done on this subject in the past time. Anyway, thanks very much for your comment.  I did not know about the grey hook. Indeed, mine is black, so I will make a note that it is - though early - a second version because of that. Kind regards, Jan

Hi Richard,

If images are over 1200 pixels x 900 pixels, they will be resized to those limits.   I just made up those limits, so I don't know if anyone prefers that they can be bigger than that?   Anyway... so that the forum stays tidy looking, images are presented cropped at 500 pixel width.  But if you click on the images, you should see that they enlarge to the original proportions.
