New Forum Searching

Some of the ways that you can search for information have changed.

* The Recent Comments panel is now the New Comments panel showing to which topics the comments belong.

* When you click the Forums link from the top menu, you will now see a tab menu with three links;

  • View Forums
  • A to Z
  • Latest Activity

View Forums shows the structure of the forums divided between British and French Dinky Toys, Other Topics, Printed Materials and Classified main categories, with all their subcategories grouped accordingly.

A to Z shows a list of topic titles in alphanumeric order which you can filter from the whole forum, to categories, down to subcategories.

Latest Activity is like New Comments but a comprehensive list of topics ordered by date.  By default the sort order is by comments newest to oldest.  You can change the order from oldest to newest topic comments.  Or from newest/oldest, oldest/newest topic titles.

Al----Thanks for re-organizing these.....I think it makes good sense and allows more options; I will have to try all of them a bit. I did try the Newest & Updated Topics, and on that first page found 3 topics that show I had a most recent comment on Thursday, April 7.....(Thu 4-7).....however, my latest updates were not yesterday, but months ago, so not sure what happened there, or if it happened anywhere else. Just thought you should know.....
Best regards, Terry

Thanks terry  - you should not have been able to see the newest & updated tab (it doesn't work).  Hopefully that should be hidden now.

Thank you very much for all your behind-the-scene work.  I am really starting to enjoy logging in each day and seeing something new with the site - something that makes it a far more easier means of seeing the latest Posts.  It is also nice seeing a suggestion I had made being acted on so quickly!  I am not used to that!!

I just wished you lived locally so that I could buy you a beer, coffee or whatever!

Thank you again.

Kind regards

Al, or Dave

Is there any way without going to too much trouble, to locate Posts with lodgment numbers between 3993 and 4000 submitted by any member?

I may have used the wrong terminology but the following are the particulars:

3992     (This is the number that interests me)

Dinkinius (this is the individual who posted the message)

258  (I presume this is Dinkinius' specific numeral that identifies who posted the message)

Re:Forum  (This is the Topic)

3992  (This is a repeat of the first number)

Some of these numbers may be within the 196 Holden Special Sedan Topic which you (Al)  has already investigated but there may be other topics as well.

This may be a strange request but I will reveal the reasons in due course!

Kind regards

Every piece of submitted information is given an ID number, Bruce.   As it happens, ID number 3992 is an Event post by Hoort.

http://dtcawebsite.com/event/namac-fair-houten-nl-1

Subsequent numbers 3993-4000 are forum comments.

These are the comment numbers with the people who made them

3992  375  Hoort
3993  1002  dinkinius
3994  1631 dinkinius
3995  1002 janwerner
3996  1002 dinkinius
3997  1002 janwerner
3998  3980  janwerner
3999  1002  Richard
4000  1631  Richard

The second number is the topic to which the comment was added.   With links, these are

1002 - Factory Errors  - Forum post
http://dtcawebsite.com/node/1002
1631 - Leyland Octopus Wagons.  - Forum post
http://dtcawebsite.com/node/1631
3980 - Dinky Toys Dioramas - Forum post
http://dtcawebsite.com/node/3980

The User ID number 258 was not assigned or the user was deleted at some point.   Your User ID number is 203.

Your UserID on the OLD website was 258, so maybe this is the data set you are referencing.    Oh, wait a minute...  are you still looking at that old db extract I sent to you?

Okay, let's assume you are....

In which case, Post #3992 on the old forum was a comment you made on topic #2268 which was simply titled "Forum" and the talk had somehow got around to airmail cars
The number of the topic on this website #3268
This is the link
http://dtcawebsite.com/node/3268
The corresponding comment number is #36 where you begin by quoting Jan.
The topic rambled on for two pages, so you'll need to use the pager at the foot of the comments.

Yes, I am still working my way through the old DB extract you made for me and I am interested in Posts 3992 through to 4000. Apologies for not being specific with my query.

I have 3292 as you correctly stated concerns the Air Mail Car and I referred to the images Jan had included in a previous Post. Then between that Post and 4000 it appears that most of these related to the 196 Holden Special Sedan.

The next Post after #3992 is possibly the following:

NUMBER 1

Dave

I know your post is old, but reading through this Thread I came across it, and thought I would include a photo of my 196 Holden Special Sedan, still secured in its export box by its rubber bands. You will note that the Holden was in the first batch produced in turquoise as Meccano were using up the bronze painted bonnet/hood, and boot/trunk from the first issue.

Bruce

The next Post is most likely, although I think there may have been a paragraph of two prior to "Obviously printed in England . . . . ":

NUMBER 2

Obviously printed in England for the American market so use the American terminology. That is why I mentioned hood and trunk in my last post although I had not noticed the use of the American English "tires" for the British English "tyres". Also there is no other languages included. With Canada next door, did they receive their stock direct from Liverpool or from Hudson Dobson? If the latter, the box did not include French, suitable for Quebec, Canada, which is why I think Canada may have obtained their stock direct from England.

By the way, I have never touched the intact rubber band still holding the "right-hand drive" Holden in its box. Guess one could call this model truly mint and boxed!

I also made reference to the bonnet/hood and boot/trunk having the original bronze colour from the first issue. Note that the model also has the original interior rather than red that was later used.

The next Post is:

NUMBER 3

Dave,

Printing the box in American English does make sense as these boxes were meant for export to the U.S. Models sold in other countries were packed in end flaps boxes.

Bruce,

NUMBER 4

Jacques

Hope the attached is the angle you required. I will have to photograph the end details tomorrow and will post it when done.

Bruce

The next Post was 4000, again dealing with the 196 Holden Special Sedan and including five images

Do you have the Post Numbers for the above four possible Posts?

As you know, the 196 Holden Topic is a bit of a nightmare to read through it logically, but before you conducted your wizardry it was a a disaster!  I would like to see it returned to what it originally was, or at least sort it out for my own file without worrying you or anyone else to resurrect it by incorporating all the work you did on it. It was no doubt highly corrupted, and what you have pulled out is really great.

So these are the old post ID numbers and links to their contents on this current forum

3993  missing
The post is missing.  This is because it was either outright deleted or deleted and reposted somewhere else - in which case it would have been assigned a new ID number.   If the second thing happened, I cannot tell you what ID number it got  - that information is not saved in the old data.

3994  "Forum"  -comment #37
http://dtcawebsite.com/node/3268?page=1

3995 missing
3996 missing

3997 "--196 Holden Special Sedan" - comment #1
http://dtcawebsite.com/node/4997
(This was clipped from another thread in the past by Jacques and I reinstated you as the original author so you could edit it)

3998 missing

3999 "--196 Holden Special Sedan" - comment #2

4000 "--196 Holden Special Sedan" - comment #3

As I mentioned to you before, I really do not think there is any more of the Holden topic remaining to be found.  I grepped through all the old messages text for "Holden" when I pulled that data extract for you, and did not find anything of any more significance.

Thanks a lot Al for all your efforts with this topic and the other stuff as well - more than appreciated.  It is a pity though, the Holden was the only Australian-made car modeled by Dinky, and unfortunately, it also appears to be one of the few original topics to be so badly corrupted.  I was considering re-doing it, but gave that idea away as I do not think anyone except an Australian would be the slightest bit interested!

I am almost finished with re-constructing all the numerous Posts I have submitted, a task I had commenced doing about three months before the site went into melt-down. Since then, I have copied everything I have written, just in case . . . . . . . . .!

Kind regards
