Re : New arrivals

Hello Jan,
No, the driver is not fixed. It looks like a military driver and probably is a later addition.
Kind regards,
Rob

Which confirms my initial assumption, Rob. A very nice piece for completing a trade box's contents indeed! Kind regards, Jan

Re : New arrivals

Hi all,

For me the most difficult pre war 25 series model to find has been the flat truck. Some weeks ago I could buy two in a short timeframe. Both are fatigue free and complete with towing hook. On the picture they are as they arrived from 40 years storage after 30 years on a train lay-out. I am bending the rules slightly to post them in this thread, but they are still new for me!

Kind regards,

Rob

Re : New arrivals

Rob----Those are both very nice. It is always fun to see the pre-war colors that were used, and in this case, the colorful frames and fenders, imstead of the post-war black. Lovely!
Best regards, Terry

Re : New arrivals

Richard----Very nice additions! You are on quite a roll recently.....well done. I have two new French Dinky's which should arrive by the end of the week. It is still fun to get those boxes in the mail & then unwrap the contents, seeing that new one for the first time.
Best regards, Terry

Re : New arrivals

Just arrived yesterday, two new French Dinky models......the Citroen 2cv van Postale and the Citroen Camionnette van Cibie. I have been on the lookout for the Cibie model for awhile, but passed on a few as they were either not quite right, or too expensive. So you can imagine my surprise when a US dealer had both, mint with boxes, and was open to an offer. He accepted my offer and then even included USPS Priority Mail, which got shipped cross country to me in 3 days. Here are just a few pictures.....I will post more under the proper topic listing later.
Best regards, Terry

Wow, these are nice, Terry! Great additions. 'Fortunately' they are slightly outside my collecting profile. Kind regards, Jan

Re : New arrivals

Jan----Yes, I know they are somewhat later models, but they also descend from earlier ones, particularly the Camionnette, which Dinky first made in 1954, so I made "room" for them. At least it is traditional Dinky earlier Dinky, without windows and other new adds. But one does have to draw the line somewhere!

Re : New arrivals

Jan & Richard----Thanks.....I also wonder why the Cibie van is so expensive, as they made them from 1959 through 1963. I assume that even though they made them for 4+ years, maybe a somewhat limited number were produced. I certainly do not see very many for sale. I happen to really like the color of the Cibie version, along with the colorful graphics....I am not certain I will pursue the other versions.....time will tell!
Best regards, Terry

Re : New arrivals

Greetings all!

A recent arrival to match my existing 818 Camion Militaire Berliet Tous Terrains is a nice example of the first issue with the sales number of 80D. So here it is, together with its younger brother!

What a terrible shame we in Australia, or at least in a large country town, never knew the existence of these fine Dinky Toys that came out of France!

Kind regards

Bruce   (150)  (Now back in Australia)

Re : New arrivals

Bruce----That looks quite nice and will be in good company with your other one. I also happen to like this model and the other Berliet versions.....pretty impressive and the French did a nice job with it. I have one, and will have to look again to see if it is earlier or later. Congrats on a nice acquisition!
Best regards, Terry

Re : New arrivals

A nice example of the first version with second box indeed, Bruce!

Any special characteristics of the base plate to be noted in the 80d thread? Kind regards, Jan

Re : New arrivals

Many thanks Terry and Jan.

Yes, I too quite like this model as well as the cab chassis being used on other vehicles in the French range. I do apologise for the quality of both images though. Both were taken under very similar conditions, but something happened when I was cleaning up the latest images that has made the vehicle's colour look different. The second version is more matt than the first which can be explained by the latter having been played with more frequently.

I will post images of both base plates under the 80D/818 topic in due course.

Kind regards

Re : New arrivals

The Citroën DS 19 arrived  last saturday morning.

It's the second type of the 24 CP with a hard to find box with both numbers 522 and 24 CP

The Peugeot 403 arrived this morning and I was waiting for it since a long, long time !

It's the first type with the full base plate

The base plate of the second type is perforated in half circle to drag the caravan.

Friendly  yours

Richard

Re : New arrivals

Richard----Very nice DS-19 with windows; I happen to like that color scheme.....mine is the green and white version. And I bought mine new from H. Hudson Dobson when they very first appeared, around 1959 or so, so it has smooth white tires. Best regards, Terry

Re : New arrivals

Richard,

Top marks to you for obtaining that very uncommon version of the 403, with the added bonus of that extremely uncommon dual-numbered box. Rare would be a better terminology, but I did not want to get carried away!!

This is yet another model and box to be added to my wish list!

Kind regards

Bruce. (150)

Re : New arrivals

After a very pleasant day out, accompanying a Rolls-Royce owner friend of mine to the Louwman Museum in The Hague, I returned home finding a parcel waiting for me containing the four early post-war Dinky Toys shown below. Among them also a Rolls-Royce, an example to replace my present one, which has the flying lady broken off. So, at last a complete and sound no. 30b in the collection.

The other ones are no. 22c Motor Trucks in bright green and matt brick red and an attractively coloured beige/brownish no. 30e Breakdown Van. Some of them for replacement, some new colour additions. Kind regards, Jan

Re : New arrivals

As for me, the more primitive a Dinky, the better, so I am very fond of these simple motor trucks and breakdown vans - preferably post-war re-issues, as these tend to be the most stable, reliable in quality. Kind regards, Jan

Re : New arrivals

Jan---Just a followup question regarding the lovely, older 22c Motor Trucks, of which you now have some very nice examples.  Some time ago, I posted about a 22c I bought from a dealer here in the states, and to me, at least, it was unusual because it was red, with what appeared to be original white tires, smooth, shiny black wheels, and black wings.  I never saw any comment from you and I remember when I posted it on Planet Diecast, some of the members there doubted its authenticity, thinking it had the wings painted black by someone at a later date I guess.  I have very carefully examined this model many times, even with a magnifying glass, and can find no evidence that it is not original.  The seamless transition between the red body and the black wings for sure seems to have been done with a mask, and there are no telltale brush marks on any  of the black surfaces.  I just cannot believe someone has re-painted this.  So I have been left with the belief it is a somewhat unusual, very early post war version that had all of these characteristics, and likely did not continue them very long.  I was curious on your take of this particular little truck....thanks!

                  Best regards,  Terry

Re : New arrivals

Terry, looking at the photo is seems to look good. In fact, I also use my hires photos as a magnifying glass to check if a model is alright. It shows much more than the bare eye. And still ... an extra check with model in hand is also necessary and it's only you who can do that. If you are convinced it's simply OK. The only suspicious thing (possibly hardly to be seen with the bare eye, but unveiled by the photo) is the tiny touch of black paint on the left front axle end. That spoil of paint can only have been done after production and is most probably a trace of a small paint touch in action of a previous owner, probably retouching a blister chip on the wheel(s). I do not think that it is the trace of a full embellishment project, adding black wings to an all red model. The thick axles testify that it is a post-war production and It is certainly very unusual to see these contrasting coloured wings post-war, but not impossible. The final judgment is to you ...

Anyway, with this unusual example you have the advantage of attractive pre-war characteristics combined with post-war quality and reliability of the casting. Kind regards, Jan

PS: Sorry, Terry, if I do not always comment on everything, I am too present here already in my opinion ...

Re : New arrivals

Jan.....I understand about not over commenting, but lately there are only comments from a tiny group of us......we had some good participation a few months ago, now it has lapsed back into minimal participation, so the back & forth banter has really fallen off.....I miss that as that is what I enjoyed here.
