The DTCA archive contains amongst may other fabulous drawings a drawing of a bus made in 1934 but not issued.
To me this bus looks like an A.E.C. but I do not know much about British buses. Can some one confirm if A.E.C. is the manufacturer and which is the type of this bus ?
Thanks and best regards.
Jacques.
Hi Jacques, I'm afraid I don't know either. Perhaps a more tangible 3D representation, like the pewter 1934-1984 jubilee model shown below, may help bus experts with the possible identification:
The image is a detail taken from the number-less figure on page 259 of the revised edition, seventh printing (1993) of Dinky Toys & Modelled Miniatures.
Kind regards, Jan Werner
Many thanks Jan for this picture which helped a lot. Your memory of books contents is incredible.
Any way, thanks to Gavin Booth from Edinburgh, here is a picture and the history of the unissued 1934 single deck bus.
The model is clearly based on the AEC Q coach with Duple bodywork supplied
in 1933 to Elliott Brothers of Bournemouth, who traded as Royal Blue and ran
express services between London, south-west England and the Midlands. The
AEC Q was a revolutionary side-engined bus and coach chassis, and the Royal
Blue example was only the second built. The 'bulge' in the roof was for
luggage.
The 29 Bus was also based on the AEC Q, this time a Double Decker.
Of course this one did make it into production.
But this one did not.
From the 1934 trade catalogue.
The type Q double decker (Dinky ref 29 a) was on page 282 of the May 1935 Meccano Magazine.
Another real-world 'rare breed' AEC Q type double decker picture below:
Kind regards, Jan Werner
