--44 A.A. Hut, Motor Cycle Patrol and Guides (1935-41)

The A.A. Hut, Motor Cycle Patrol and Guides, was introduced, along with the RAC set, in the same Meccano Magazine issue of October 1935.  I believe that the A.A. was another automotive service club, open to membership to car owners.  They also provided roadside assistance with roving patrols, and also had these AA huts stationed on various roadways, available to members.  The AA Hut is quite a bit larger than the RAC version, and is also more complicated, with its three moving banners on the top.  It features the same guides, but now in the uniforms of the AA.  Also of interest, the scenery used as a backdrop differs from the RAC.

                  Best regards,  Terry

Two early colour illustrations from an antiquarian booklet of mine: Golden Milestone, 50 years of the AA. Ed. by David Keir and Bryan Morgan (1955).

Caption: "A man must undergo a rigorous and intensive course of training at the AA's own school before he acquires a beat of his own and becomes that familiar and friendly figure, the patrol".

Jan----Those are wonderful photos, especially the one of the hut. The scale that Dinky made the model to makes it appear much larger than the photo shows. Thanks for posting!
Best regards, Terry
