This is the Peugeot 504 made in Spain (1977 - 1979) it has opening bonnet and boot but not the doors. Only one colour is known, as above, what ever this colour is.
My model is as on picture 1 with DINKY TOYS written in thin caracteres. Picture 2 shows a rare model almost certainly unique in light blue on which DINKY TOYS is written in thicker letters.
The question is : have the production models been made with the base plate No. 2 in the dark colour ? How is your's ?
Do not mistake this 1452 for the 1415 with opening doors.
Thanks for your help.
Jacques.
Hi Jacques.
I see that my idea is going on !
To complete your investigation, I post here under some photos with the Pilen model.
The Pilen is in the middle :
Here is the base plate of the Pilen model :
All together :
While I am writing this message and looking at the photos, I just saw THE detail which make sure that it is a dinky with its own base plate !! :cheer: : Have a look on the next photo and compare the tyres : large for the Pilen and thin for the Dinky.
Kind regards
Concerning the tyres, I think that I wrote a stupidity ! If we can change the PILEN model base plate, It must be possible to change the wheels too !
Sorry for that.
friendly yours
Richard

Here is a photograph of the base plate of my 1452 Peugeot 504 together with a close-up of the lettering.
I might be mistaken, but the base appears to be similar to your Type 2.
Let me know what you think. I will check out the other one I have if I can find it!
Found it - it too has the same lettering as the above image. However one thing that was very noticeable is that both models have different hubs. I never noticed that before. If of interest, I will attach photographs of them.
Kind regards

Bruce,
Thank you for your information.
This means that both types of base plates have been produced in quantities.
It also means that one should not worry if a question does not get answered immediately, it took six months for this one but the right answer came. Great !
Jacques.
Jacques
Thank you. I am slowly going through the Forum to see if I can provide any input with any questions raised before I started wielding the pen. I have resuscitated a number of old Threads in recent months, including one recently that has revived the topic!
In my last post I also wrote about the two different hubs. Although you did not make any reference to this, I am attaching images of both types, the first being identical to your model:
The hubs in the right image are recessed, with the inner for both types being identical.
Kind regards

Sorry Bruce, I had not noticed your reference to different hubs.
Although it is a Pilen hub, it also fals into the Dinky hubs and is then the 136 th. type of Dinky Toys hubs/wheels. Who said that most Dinky wheels were the same ?
Could you please post or email a large picture of the hollow type so that I can add it to the table of wheels in the Encyclopaedia ?
Jacques.
No worries Jacques
The images below are of the two types of hubs I mentioned. I will send you direct better images of the hubs, but thought readers of this Thread might like to see the hubs to which I referred.
The photograph on the left, above is the same as you posted at the start of this Thread, and on the right, the hollow type.

Sorry Bruce, I meant a large picture of one of the wheels at least 300 pixels wide.
Something like this.
Sorry Jacques, you misunderstood what I wrote:
"I will send you direct better images of the hubs, but thought readers of this Thread might like to see the hubs to which I referred."
This will be done in the next day or so, depending on the weather, as I use natural light for my photography. (Which is certainly not on a par with the likes of Jan and Terry to name but a few!)
Kind regards

As mentioned in my last post, I am sending you the following images in high resolution by separate email. I am including them within the limitations of this website to enable readers of this Thread to see the wheel hubs up reasonably close within the limitations of both my camera and the photographer.
I did not realize just how much fluff is covering this model as it has been mostly inside its box since purchase!! My apologies to everyone!

Interesting to see these different wheels. I don't have this model, but it looks to me like they might be the same wheels as usual, but with the hubcaps missing. How do the outer rims compare on your other model?
Fred,
You are right, on this model the hubs covers are missing.
Jacques.
Good morning!

Thanks Fred for your observations.
Jacques, I am a little bit lost here, and no doubt others are as well who have been following this Thread.
I presume Fred is writing about the 1452 hubs, pictures of which I have sent to you. This is what you wrote about those hubs at that time on or about 7 May although I have made one spelling correction:

I then provided you with images direct by email, and followed that by adding these images to this Thread for readers to see the hubs up close.
Then came your response:

However, I have located a copy of what has until now, been missed during the rescue process with the old website:

So what does all this state about “Pilen” and a new Dinky Toys hub? Does this mean the removal of what you thought was the 136th type of Dinky Toys hubs/wheel, and what is this about hub covers? I do not normally collect French Dinky Toys although I do have a very small collection purchased in recent years as in Australia French Dinky Toys were never imported into the country, unless other collectors living in one of the capital cities can advise otherwise. Although I have a number of books on French Dinky Toys, they are all in French naturally and consequently I have no idea about French Dinky Toys having hub covers.
Can you please enlighten me with the situation concerning my 1452 as based on your last comments, this model is “incomplete” due to it having lost its hub caps, or as you have called them, hub covers. Does it also mean my other 1452 has the identical hubs but with hub covers/caps?

Bruce,
I have been mistaken by your pictures until Fred pointed out that these wheels had hub caps or covers which I had never noticed.
Here is a picture of the same type of hubs as on your 504s on which one can see clearly the hub and the cap.
Both your 504s have the same wheels, on one of your models the caps are missing and the model is incomplete and not worthy of your splendid collection.

Hi friends.
Has somemember a french Dinky Toys price list of 1973 or later, with the Peugeot 504 and its reference number 011452 ?
I will be very pleased to have a copy.
Many thanks
Richard
Richard,
You have the answer to your question in your Encyclopaedia. Go to home page >>> catalogues >>> catalogues Meccano >>> France this is where almost every French Dinky Toys catalogue can be found. I think that only one is partly missing.
the 1974 catalogue advertises the Peugeot 504 ref 1415 with four opening doors
the 1975 catalogue is the same as the 1974 one
the 1976 catalogue has the new ref 1452 Peugeot with opening bonnet and boot, no opening doors. There are several errors in the layout of the page 104
in 1977 the catalogue is the same as that of 1976 but some reference numbers have now six digits like 11 1452
the 1978 catalogue has a new lay out of the pictures but it contains an order form on which the Peugeot 504 is priced at 12.70 Frs. plus tax. At the time the VAT may have been only 5% on toys.
in the 1979 catalogue, the last one to have been printed, there are no more Dinky Toys from the Calais factory, only British ones and five of the Pilen models. The very rare 2cv has been issued later.
Hello Jacques.
Thank you very much.
I went on that page but I did not undestand that we can open new pages with the buttons at the bottom of the page !
