Thanks a lot to my postwoman who brings me this little buick on saturday morning.
With its sisters !
Happy Easter
Richard
Great to see so many Buicks. I attach mine with an Atlas Packard behind; the Atlas construction comes in a little lighter in weight. Whoops photo too big, will resend.
Only got the maroon myself, must try harder!
Lovely model
CW
My only example, in maroon, as presently on display in the replacement set box base (with original box lid):
And below the picture in the USA catalogue of 1952.
The scan looks lowres, but it isn't, actually I made the picture resolution some 15% higher than in the catalogue. Besides, the model is still illustrated in the pre-war state.
Kind regards, Jan
Jan--Looks lovely in maroon. The Buick sure had a nice style to it.....a very handsome car!

Have a nice week-end
gentleman
Has te Buick been issued at anytime without a baseplate and in militry colours?
Dirk
Dirk -- that military Buick is a repaint.
Good morning Johnny.
Thank you, I thought as much. Please tell me if it is known that some dinky's were delivered without base plates in the early day's of Dinky production?
Thank you
Dirk
Dirk -- there are some Dinky Toys that inherently have no base plates, and they are generally identified by having Dinky Toys and Meccano Ltd. marked as part of the main body casting. I am not aware of any that were first issued without any baseplate and later gained one. If any do exist another member is welcome to correct me on this!
The Peugeot 402 ref. 24 K and 24 L were also issued without a base plate and gained one later on.
Models which were first issued without a base plate had the name Meccano cast in. ie. Peugeot 402, streamlined fire engine, any other ? The 29d Paris bus may have been issued without a base plate but collectors are arguing about wether it has or not.
There is at least one model which started off with no base and later gained one, the 25h fire engine.
A fine example, and thanks for the photos of the underside, Jan. Photos showing that of the early model are not easy to obtain.
Hello boys.
We have to add the racing cars reference numbers 23a (both MG versions) and 23b (Renault and Hotchkiss fench and british versions)
Kind regards
Richard
Salut camarade
This is about models which were first issued without a baseplate and on which a baseplate was added later on. The ref 23 and 23a MGs and the ref 23b Hotchkiss never hasd a baseplate..
It's very interesting to see that the prewar fire engine in Jan's photo has the baseplate supports on its casting but no base. Does this mean that the 25h carried on without a baseplate after the 25k with firemen had been introduced?
It started without base plate in 1936 but from 1937 25h had a base plate too. Kind regards, Jan
The point I meant to make is that those little supports (which were not on early castings) presumably would not have been added before the baseplate was introduced. If the 25k appeared in 1937 with a baseplate and the 25h gained its baseplate at the same time then it is surprising to see an example with the supports cast in but with no baseplate fitted.
I understand your point, but I cannot explain. Are examples known without the supports?
See also the Emergency Vehicles >25h -thread for this. Regards, Jan
Jan--A lovely example! The Buick Viceroy was my very first 39 series acquisition and still my favorite. I love those two fender mounted spare tires. I just found out a few years ago that the Viceroy name was for export models, as I had never heard of it in the US.
Best regards, Terry
