The pre-war box codes begin with the letter A where A stands for Accessory, since the original Modelled Miniatures range was intended as track-side decoration for Hornby Train layouts.  Therefore many other Hornby accessory items appear in this list

In the post-war production, from about 1951, a short-lived code numbering system beginning 50000 was instituted.

Eventually, by 1955, the trade box method of stock distribution was abandoned in favour of trade packs of, normally, six individually boxed models.  Prior to shrinkwrapping, the trade pack containers were plain thinwall grey cardboard boxes black printed with the name and model number of the contents with no other code reference.
